Alcohol vapor + oxygen? Sounds just a bit flammable to me...

I don't understand how taking the fun out of drinking makes drinking more fun. I imagine that's my age showing.

The first thing you think is "InstaBrainDamage Machine", and I still think that, but supposedly the inventor has that covered, even though the legal page on the site he has pretty much covers his ass on all use of it.

One certainly wouldn't want to exhale near an open flame, methinks.

Isn't this just a really expensive nebulizer?

As banned where I live.

SOMEbody must have been sitting around with a no-longer-trendy oxygen bar thinking, "I wonder what would happen if I put BOOZE in there?"

And here I was thinking this would be a post about Bush.

No hangover, you say? I could use this.

Now, if it's the AWOL machine, does that mean it's the same machine used by Dubya during those "missing years" in the Alabama National Guard?..

A portion of an alcohol hangover is the unavoidable byproduct of taking alcohol into your bloodstream. This won't reduce that. Other things avoided, though, I guess. But I bet that the effect is mostly because you're absorbing so much alcohol all at once—you get the perceived effects of drinking a lot more alcohol without, perhaps, all the toxicity of that larger amount. I dunno. I'm skeptical of the claim, though.

If so, add me to the old fogey list. Half the fun in getting drubk is drinking.

Also, it would have to be very easy to seriously overdose on alcohol with this, in the same way that drinking a whole bottle of scotch at once will probably kill you, but you could drink the same bottle over an extended period, giving your body a chance to deal with the alcohol.

I'm quite taken with the woman's expression in the first photograph. Looks like the machine is good for quite the experience!

In my day we just huffed hairspray.

P'shaw. Ain't nothing new, just a garden-variety nebulizer with some splashy graphics and all. One of the things I hate about Metafilter is the "let me tell you about the time" comments, but let me tell you about these guys who lived in UC Davis, a few doors down from a friend. Bunch of Navy swabbies, had one of these things. Never tried it myself but word was that yes, got you drunk -- quite quickly in fact since you are bypassing the gastric process. A whallop of the alcohol is actually absorbed by mouth & throat -- a nice even coating seemed to speed the process up. Word was that if you used scotch you'd get a pleasant bouqet...
