Danzig gets his just desserts

Danzig gets knocked out. Now, I know that most of you probably aren't big on violence, however, I find a little jolt of comfort in seeing Danzig dropped with one punch. It's like being back in high school and seeing a bully knocked out by a geek he'd been picking on. (NSFW - violence and language)

Glenn's muscled-up, but he's like midget level short, right?

Besides musles are for show, a lot of the time. Big bodybuilder types have never been the best streetfighters.

Still love my Misfits records though.

Danzig has a reputation of trying to act like the toughest guy who ever walked the earth. He'd rather win through intimidation, but that only works if you've got something to back it up. He doesn't, and that's funny to those who know his history.

It always disappoints me when real-life fights look nothing like The Matrix.

"Bad show with Danzig last night. I posted this on Blabbermouth.com before he tries to sue me for knocking him out. Read this and die with laughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before crazy rumors begin to spread I would like to explain what happened:

North Side Kings were to play with Danzig last night in Tuba City, Arizona. To make a long story short the whole show was a disaster and a few bands got bumped off. Mr. Danzig (or his managment??) refused to push back the original scheduled time slot so North Side Kings and Rapid Fire would have to play "after" his set. Whatever- we agreeded to play later because we drove 6 hours and didn't feel like going home without playing.

Needless to say, as soon as Danzig was finished, the venue turned on the lights and Danzigs crew and the staging company began to take the stage apart almost instantly. I confronted Mr. Danzig backsatge while he was signing autographs and told him I thought he was an asshole because of his "rockstar" attitude and no consideration twords the FEW other bands that got bumped off tonight. In a fit of rage he turned around and slammed me into the wall yelling "fuck you motherfucker" trying to be a big toughguy in front of his fans. I -in self defence punched him in the face knocking him out as he was attacking me again. He went down, bleeding from his mouth, eyes rolled back, and in shock that he got knocked to the floor so quickly.

A friend happened to tape the entire incident and this is all documented. Many witnesses saw him attack me, and I did what any man would do.

It was unfortunate that this went the way it did -and I hoped Glen Danzig learned a valuable lession tonight - Do not lay your hands on anyone unless you can handle what may happen.

I aploigize for nothing, except for the poor little kids that had to witness this big asshole get his ass kicked in a matter of seconds.....

WTF? Glenn is, what, fifty? Have I missed the part of his life where he becomes a raging asshole?

Caveats:

I have been uninterested in his music since approximately halfway through the brief career of Samhain, so, yeah, I sure coulda missed something.

I will admit to chuckling as a pal once poured a beer on his head, but this was MANY MANY years ago, and he surely did nothing to deserve it.

I guess that's what happens when you push someone and then immediately drop your arms by your side. Keep your guard up, man (and don't forget to bob and weave).

Haha, danzig got dropped. It looked like a fucking wrestlemania showdown, with all the balding losers and 12 year old kids watching it go down.

Looking at the video, the punch connecting looked like total luck (bad luck in Danzig's case). You see the dude get pushed against the wall, and he pops back away from the wall and just throws his arms in a frenzy, but they happen to clock Danzig right on the face.

I watched it 4-5 times in slow mo, and it looks like total luck, and in the perfect place to put anyone down. I'm not defending Danzig, but I assumed I was going to see a real fight on tape and this was more like someone walking into another person's fist.

The results of most the (invariably alcohol-fueled) fights in which I've been involved (and there were a few, way back in the bad old days) came as a result of a lucky punch or the equivalent. Unless one or more of the combatants is an experienced streetfightin' man type, that is usually the case.

In other words, don't believe Hollywood.

I know I've seen this video clip somewhere else recently, and I thought it was here in the blue. Anyway...

Danzig puts his arms up when the punch comes, but because it was thrown so badly (a huuuuge arc), it effectively became a great punch because his arm goes around the block.

Yay, violence.

It looked like a good connect to me.

Glenn will probably be working on his roll as this scene plays out over and over again in hid mind.

?

It clearly was a lucky punch, but it probably helped that the guy was huge, and had the guts to swing at all.

What was Danzig thinking? cuss out, and shove (hard) a 300 pound tough guy and then just stand there haunched with your arms by your side? did he think he'd come back with some flowers? very strange, and to me, danzig didn't seem to even react, just get clocked.
It must be some sort of flattery, however, having the internet (or pockets of it, at least) so interested in the fact that someone knocked you out.

This brings me unending joy. At a Danzing concert many, many moons ago (maybe 10 years ago), I saw Danzing beat the ever loving crap out of a fan for having to gall to actually bump into him in the act of stagediving. Danzing beat the crap out of this poor kid onstage, then motioned for security to finish the job and toss the kid out.

Asshole.

99.9% of the time big dumb tough guy jerks will swing first with a wild right-hand haymaker exactly like this one. I actually laughed when I saw this clip because it was just so predictable. The fact that another big dumb tough guy like Danzig couldn't see it coming is even more hillarious.

For those folks who don't know the North Side Kings, they're a hardcore band out of Phoenix. They play what can be best described as "mafia-core" -- their lyrics talk about La Cosa Nostra and whatnot. When it comes down to it, though, they pretty much rock.

That guy, their singer -- if you can't get a sense of it from the video -- is fuckin' huge and mean looking. Not one with whom one would want to fuck, one would think...

From the blog interview with Danny Marianino (DM):
JB – He is a muscular dude.
DM – He’s short, I think he’s 5'6", but if you look at his shoulders, he looks like that wrestler Triple H, He’s in good shape. People were giving me some shit because he’s in his 40's. If me and Danzig were to run down the street, he would beat me in the race.

JB – You are a lot bigger that him, how tall are you?
DM – I’m five ten. And if me and Danzig were to square up in a fight he’d probably beat the living shit out of me.
JB – Which is why you were trying to take care of it right away? So you think if that would have gone a few more blows it would have been bad for you?
DM – If I didn’t hit him as well as I hit him, yeah. But I hit him with so much I kept going. I was so mad, you hear me yell 'you f***in’ hit me' right when I went at him.

...

JB – A little off topic, but, have you ever knocked anyone else out before?
DM – Yeah, when I was kid, but that’s not something to brag about. I’ve been knocked out before, too, so, everybody’s got there time, there’s always somebody bigger and badder.

JB – Anything I missed that you want to address?
DM – The whole situation kind of sucks, but I think it’s very funny. When you have a person like Danzig who told Kurt Loder that he could beat up Stephen Segal, or the old story of who could win a fight, Glenn Danzig or Henry Rollins, I think we know the answer to that.
Rollins, I think (but I could be wrong) actually used to fight quite a bit back in his Black Flag days. I'd expect him to actually know how to fight. Marianino doesn't show any street fighting skills here, but he doesn't claim any, either. It's unclear whether Danzig could really fight or not, I don't think he expected a response (to his shove) from Marianino at all. I guess that does say something—he's a bit of an idiot.

And that is a bad thing? I wish all stage divers had one neck, and Danzig had his hands around it.
