Aristophanes...forever to be remembered as Felix's Password clue on "The Odd Couple."

(everyone knows that Aristophanes wrote a play called "The Birds")

Are you suggesting that Aristophanes was a physically obese nihilist with a talent for making slanderous, lie-filled documentary films that seduced large numbers of people with undeveloped critical minds? I thought motion picture technology only dated to the late 1800's.

Paris, as usual, try reading the article. It's the title.

Dale Peck: the Aristophanes of today.

(PP: are you saying that The Clouds is an accurate representation of Socrates? There really was a Thinkery?)

PP: Care to cite actual lies or would you rather continue offering us slanderous, lie-filled rhetoric from your underdeveloped critical mind?

Odd.. FPP requires a login/pass when it was not before.

Here's a login that will work.

This sentence is less ambiguous when "documentary films" is replaced with "arguments for war". Then it's clear that we're both talking about Dick Cheney.

stbalbach: are you suggesting that aristophanes was a physically obese leftist whose popular appeal and belief in speaking truth to power made him hated by the corporate media and the rich? i thought and the existence of an unscrupulous ruling elite only dated back to the late 1800's.

that aristophanes was a physically obese leftist

Why specify physically obese? Can one be emotionally obese?

It's astonishing that my comment yields serious, or even semi-serious responses. Lies, for a start, check the Hitchens article in Slate.com. add in the fact that the Bush Administration was acting on reasonable assessments of the intelligence available to it. And then, add in the fact that Michael Moore is a certified asshole.

He's actually a devout Roman Catholic. But don't let the distinct lack of knowledge contained within your undeveloped critical mind get in the way of your slanderous lying.

Hitchens article was hysterical nonsense brought upon by the downward spiral of his sensibility and journalistic integrity. The rest is just your usual bullshit, simplified down to such an extent that its essentially worthless to any meaningful discussion, which is ironically what makes the first bit--why anything you say yields serious responses--the only cogent point of two entire posts.

Asshole!

Hmmm. Euripides was actually the much more progressive playright as far as social issues went. Indeed, attacking Cleon wasn't enitrely unlike doing a Clinton BJ joke, in my opinion. Aristophones was, again in my opinion, a conservative comedian in the mold of Jay Leno.

Aristophanes vs. Michael Moore? But both are my friends, I cannot be judge, and neither would I have for an enemy. One is so clever, and the other delights me.

Well, that's a little strong. I wouldn't necessarily call the Hitchens article "Lies," just wild-eyed bloviation, for the most part.

This reminds me of when hama7 so helpfully pointed us to the Hitchens article. Good times.

Which part of the Hitchens article isn't true?

Hey, I've got an idea - why don't we have a whole thread or two about the Hitchens article to discuss that question? Paris, would you mind setting up the FPP?

Clever that, subtilely promoting your alma matter. How did you fare during the certification exam(s)? I'm guessing your score was significantly higher than Moore's. Perhaps a link to a list of graduates from this program might be helpful as well as pointers on how to get access to the training materials. Elite company I imagine.

Sorry, but I think Rush Limbaugh's IQ is significantly higher than either Al Franken's or Michael Moore's.

Lies, like Iraq didn't try to buy yellowcake from a country in Africa? You know, you leftist, pacifist cowards: please, go protest in the street, in New York and Boston--please I beg you! Show America the face of who thinks George W. Bush is so horrible, just to firm our resolve to keep you and your surrogates out of office.

I don't recall that charge being made in Moore's film, much less in any works of Aristophanes. I'm pretty sure that Joe Wilson wasn't in the movie (and he definitely wasn't in any of Aristophanes' plays). Do you recall seeing him somewhere in the movie, Paris?
