Does Pepsi make ice cream?

Huh? Not sure what either of these comments mean.

They're curious why you think any of us needs to know this or why you think it's "best of the web", which is supposed to be what Metafilter is about--in short, why did you post this?

Best of the web? "Needs to know" this? I just thought it was a clever little humor piece that others might be interested in.

That still doesn't explain the Pepsi reference.

No Coke, Pepsi.

Perhaps I freaked out a little rapidly. The parody names are what you posted, not the product announcement itself. But still, considering that 1 of your previous posts was "Announcing Low Car Coke" I smelled a product placement post and lost it. To spell it out: product marketers have enough reach into our lives without our posting their new product announcements on MetaFilter.

The Pepsi comments are a reference to the time that someone posted "Annoucing Pepsi Blue" when that product was introduced. A now-famous miscalculation. Actually I'd say you were lucky to get off as easy as you did with the low-carb Coke thread.

There aren't enough fucking popups.

In the interest of saving this thread, here's an old mefi thread about naming ice cream.

"Announcing Low Car Coke"

A soft drink for people who drive lowriders seems overly specific. Especially since "Monster Truck Coke" disappeared so quickly. But that might have been because their celebrity endorser, Gravedigger, flattened a loaded school bus.
