Moon is Noah's Ark

The Moon should become a DNA Noah's Ark for repopulating the Earth in case of catastrophe, suggests the chief scientist Bernard H. Foing of the ESA's Research and Scientific Support Department. A more earthly frozen ark is already under construction.
If there was a catastrophic event such that we had to repopulate the planet, wouldn't we presumably also have trouble getting to the moon and back?

Oh Hildago, you're so practical! ;) Lifeboat. I'm not sure I'd want to be around after a global catastrophe, personally.

And whom would they pick to represent humans?
My vote would be Joey Lawrence and Fran Drescher.
