Is it true that Pirates are the new Robot, which a few years back was the new Monkey? How do these in-jokes du jour originate?

I'm of the persuasion that this is an in-joke that has seriously worn out it's welcome, but then again, I work all day with PHP programmers & sysadmins who say Arrrrrrr a lot and think it's "wacky". I also can't visit friends in Chapel Hill or Philly without being dragged to a pirate-themed hipster party, replete with ironic swilling of Pabst.

I'm getting old.

I’m Speed Racer, and I drive real fast!
I’m a big pirate, and I like to steal!
I’m a Barbie doll, but I got brains!
I’m your doctor, and here’s the bill!

I propose that next Sunday will be a backwards skate. Backwards skaters only, please.

dhoyt, I have but one thing to say to you, ye skallywag: Arrrr.

It's just not as good having "Talk Like a Pirate Day" fall on Sunday. Going "A-a-r-r-r-r" to everybody at work is so much more fun than going "A-a-r-r-r-r" to everybody at church.

But then, I'll bet some football fans in Oakland and Tampa won't even notice.

Having it fall on a Sunday just means that you can legitimately have two weekends of hipster pirate parties.

Arrrrr.

A friend of mine works at a company that celebrated Talk Like a Pirate Day at work on Friday.

What kind of cool company celebrates Talk Like a Pirate Day...? The Internet Arrrchive, of course! (I'd link to the picture of Brewster Kahle and crew dressed as pirates, but I don't have permission yet... but suffice it to say that they're all pirates at heart, me mateys!)

As for me, I'm off to a pirate party tonight, to shake some pirate booty...
