Good stuff wrecked by bogus (at least for me) flash presentation
that, besides bouncing images around, delivers small versions of
them when clicked on -- what a bummer. Note that it's not
all galleries, but certainly some I was interesed in (The Fans & Lost
America)

When did it started not to be OK to just fucking present images
with Next/Prev links?

NBH, I agree the pictures could be bigger and the flash is unnecessary, but I like the pix and you can next and prev by clicking on the bottom right and left of the pix.

I thought at first this was had something to do with File Megazine put out in the 70s and 80s by the Toronto-based new-dadaist group General Idea. (you can pick up a copy of the 1975 "William Burroughs" issue for only $115)

Well, the logo is certainly damn close to the old File mag logo.

And don't remind me of the current value of those old issues -- my collection disappeared years ago. *sob*

the flash is unnecessary

That depends. The flash makes it more difficult (impossible?) to grab an image from the site.
