He should put his money where his mouth is ...or something.

Well, that poor man's face is turned partially away from the camera. Hard to tell if he did catch a ball-drainer or not. I always knew DeLay was "The Big Loada" but I'm still lacking proof.

Am I missing something, or is this post really just based on the label someone gave to an image file (and the fact that the phrase chosen has a pornographic connotation)?

Odd. Maybe he just doesn't know what it means.

Yes. This post is just a different sort of political splooge for the polifites to, uh, chew on.

I don't get it.

I've noticed the phrase "money shot" coming up a lot, like when I was watching CNN coverage of the SpaceShipOne landing, a reporter referred to the second launch as the "money shot".

See also Paula Abdul calling Ruben Studdard's dimples "the money shot". I suspect these people may be unaware of the actual meaing of the term.

If I'm not mistaken, "the money shot" was borrowed by the porn industry from the "legitimate" cinema. It didn't (and doesn't) always have pornographic connotations.

Delay was 'rebuked' in the house for tying political donations to legislation so it's a bit of a double pun. Rebuked apparently now means "I'm a scumbag but a powerful one, had it been a 1st term Democrat this would be cause for scandal, shame and serious action."

I think it's one of those terms that was borrowed, went out of fashion (probably in no small part because of who borrowed it and what for) in the mainstream, and has then come back stronger because pr0n is so fucking fashionable these days.

So when Paula Abdul says that Reuben's dimples are "the money shot", she means that they're necessary to his "triumph" much as you can't make a porn scene without some kind of ... well, money shot. She knows damn well where the term has been used. And I expect DeLay does, too; he pretty much sees the whole world in terms of who gets to "cum on" whom, AFAICS.

Congressman DeLay talks to one of his constituents at a Cinco de Mayo event that took place in Alvin, Texas

OK ... so, even knowing the relevant facts, and understanding the double-entendre, why is that photo important in any way?
Is this one of those secret message posts, or have politics just gotten too oblique for me?

Yeah... I don't get it.

The photo is important as it shows Delay interacting with a person of color with a United States flag on his sleeve. Someone at his office realized that this offers the greatest potential for political profit, and called it the "money shot".

This reveals, therefore, that Delay and his office are more concerned with appearances than they are with producing effective and equitable policy.

And, of course, the same is true of every other politician. Bush in his flight suit, with is Thanksgiving turkey, for example. Kennedy looking rugged on his sailboat.

This is fascinating, however, because it offers a tiny glimpse behind the curtain. The man behind Oz is a manipulative little weasel with his mind in the gutter.

Dig?

My only thought is that the picture was named such because it is of him with a minority "first responder." Thus giving him cred with two coveted groups. Just my take. If that was the basis for the name I don't think it is relevant to his person (which is the implication I got from the post...of course I could be wrong)

On preview: What aladfar said. But I think it reflects more on politicians in general not just Delay.

Time for Tom to [cough] come out of the closet? Don't delay, do it today.

Wealthy, stupid rednecks who give him lots of money gets Tom turgid.

404 Page Not Found. Looks like someone's awake over there. Not that it matters since Delay's days are numbered.

Ah, I see, that is quite crass.

(maybe some sort of "check out the linked image name" would have helped those of us who do not regularly notice things like that)

I wonder who told them about it.

I'm sure the image-naming convention was for diabolical reasons which reveal a cynical subtext. I'm sure DeLay himself does all the webmastering, too. Yes. Hey, did you hear, Bush received direction from Cheney via earpiece in the debates! Another great post! Lemmings.

OK, fair enough that it wasn't DeLay himself who named it, but is there an alternate explanation for the image name?
posted by milovoo at 11:31 AM on October 7, 2004

Politics aside for a moment. I just thought it was funny that it was titled something like "money shot." I was looking for something unrelated and stumbled on that. Figured metafilter folks would appreciate it...

Here's something curious, though - clicking through from metafilter to the photo album, which is still up, yields a 404 page. Go there in a separate browser window, the page loads fine.
