I hope he uses the GTA: Vice City defense! Nope, he's using insanity, he told police he was "exercising my political expression''. Yeah, that'll fly. He was trying to intimidate them with his car, that's totally legal, right?

Does this mean she's pretty well a shoo-in for re-election now? Cheat death, win the vote?

FWIW, a friend of mine actually knows this guy. This is what he wrote to me in an email earlier today:

ok folks, this is crazy. I used to work for the guy who tried to run over katherine harris this morning. I painted a few of the buildings he owns in evanston, working for him for most of the summer of 1995. his quotes in the report are totally in character. my job with him stopped abruptly one day, when he had a nervous breakdown and moved to hollywood. guess he has since moved down to florida. he was a nice guy, but totally nuts -sort of an insecure megalomaniac with severe add. he used to introduce himself as "berry seltzer --like the water."

Let's get some of these out of the way quickly:

Photo does not look like the typical Florida Cadillac, I smell a conspiracy.

I wonder how many times the jury will count their votes at his trial?

If his name had been Chad Dangling, it would have been perfect.

Motivation? Conspiracy? Who gives a shit, the really important part of the story is he missed her - the bitch lived to walk away! Hope he's got gas left in that Caddy, 'cause I won't be satisfied until he finishes the job...

I don't like Harris one bit, but I don't find the idea of running her down with a car to be especially funny.

Just saying.

Agreed with troutfishing. "Missed opportunity" is really not a very couth way of posting this AT ALL. I say this as somebody who votes in her district and is doing his best to vote the bitch out of office -- but note that I do not say "Aw, shucks" when greeted with the news that she might have died.

Unless it is a clown car and 30 clowns run out and try to put her in a clown ambulance, but the stretcher has no bottom.

Does she have a chance of staying in? What's her race look like?
posted by amberglow at 3:50 PM on October 27, 2004

He better be out on bail by next Tuesday. Florida still swings in the balance and we need every single vote we can get.

Joking about attempted murder with a car isn't very funny, I agree.

Unless its a clown driving and his big shoes get tangled up in the pedals. And he uses his big red nose for a horn. Then its pretty funny.

On Preview: Damn Joey, same brainwave patterns, scary!

Amberglow, I'm not sure but I think she's a white anglo-saxon female, what's that got to do with her chances of re-election? Hehehe.

Fenriq, yours is funnier though.

Wait, don't you all remember Katherine Harris' makeup jobs? She's the clown in this picture. Normally I'd agree that running over people is Not Funny, but running over a clown? Comedy Gold, I tell ya.

I'd hit it (Katherine Harris, that is).

I don't think Kathrine Harris almost being run down is funny either - its a damn shame.

What to say -- her dishonesty cost the lives of over a thousand Americans (at least -- who knows if there would have been a 9/11 without Bush) and more than ten times as many non-Americans.

In an honest world, she'd be in jail and thus protected from people like this.

Thank you lupus_yonderboy. Although I'm sure that 9/11 would have still occurred, I'm quite positive the subsequent Iraq war and alienation of allied countries at the hands of W would have not. Harris was a major factor in cheating Bush into office, and I for one, would gladly trade her life for the 1300+ US soldiers who have died subsequent to W's taking the helm.

This year's Harris--Glenda Hood (heh--Hood)

Missed opportunity? Is this considered to be clever now among the hateful left? Proposing the murder of conservative politicians? I seriously fucking hope the federales come after your dead ass.
posted by paleocon at 5:27 PM on October 27, 2004

Why does everyone always use Harris' first and last name? Did people do this with whatever her name was before she adopted a female persona?
posted by majick at 5:31 PM on October 27, 2004

Amberglow -- she'll probably stay in office, actually. Her opponent Jan Schneider (also a white Anglo-Saxon female) is a fighter, but even though nobody here seems to like Katherine Harris at all, she'll probably win simply by virtue of the Republican nature of our county.
posted by logovisual at 5:34 PM on October 27, 2004

sorry logo--that sucks. Has she actually done anything in the House? (and at least she's apt to do less damage in that place than the Senate)

majick, i went to school with a Kenny Harris--hmmmm ; >

Who would want to run down Katherine Harris? You'd never get all that make up off your bumpers.

paleocon: Spare me the poor victimized Republicans bullshit. The right has spewed far worse for far longer.
Nobody proposed KH's murder, anyway.
[joke]
I'm just sorry that even the really wacko liberals have enough of a conscience that they have to swerve at the last minute.

Oh, you mean besides showing off to the world that's she's cheating on her husband with a married man? Um, nothing comes to mind.
posted by Civil_Disobedient at 6:49 PM on October 27, 2004

It's funny because she didn't die... she probably just soiled herself.

Less than she did in 2000, but still.
posted by stonerose at 6:50 PM on October 27, 2004

paleocon, what would Federales have to come after anyone for? A Federale is a Mexican police officer who has less than no jurisdiction or interest in the affairs of some nut who wanted to make the evening news.

This woman is a largely culpable party in that abortion that was the 2000 election. People harbor some resentment, nobody called for her death but no one's really bummed that someone tried.

Do you really want me to swing through some of your GOP sites and bitchslap you with the utterly vile hate that's been spewed there?

This is the most childish thread I've ever seen. Congrats!

That was her!?! OMFG!
Hysterical--and she's still going to get reelected???
posted by amberglow at 7:19 PM on October 27, 2004

Would people mind not playing the "Your side's eviler than my side" game? It is really annoying. We all know that a lot of right-wingers are hateful beasts, but that really is no excuse to take the low road. She's an elected official. (Unlike her boss -- cha-CHING! Ahem.)

And while I do deplore the tone of the rhetoric here, I'm going to admit it: It would be funny if it had been a clown car, and thirty clowns had jumped out and tried to load her into a clown ambulance, but the stretcher had no bottom. But then there would be 350 comments in this thread.

I am somewhat ashamed that this post was not shouted down more severely for its blatant malevolence. A human being is a human being... joking about how you wish she were dead is not ok. It reminds me of GW jokingly looking for WMD in that stupid video.

Out of office? Great. Public humiliation, jail, justice? Sure. But running her over with a car? I really don't want to be associated with it at all, and I think the guy gave some serious propaganda talking points to the Republicans.
posted by zekinskia at 10:03 PM on October 27, 2004

Maybe one of those propaganda points could be:
"Stop fucking up our country, or half the populace is going to be trading in their Buick for an Armalite AR-10 carbine gas-powered semi-automatic weapon and stalking from GOP office to GOP office pumping round after round into politicians and spin-meisters"
posted by bashos_frog at 1:47 AM on October 28, 2004

It's a good thing Bush is a uniter. Can you imagine how bad things would be if he had been a divider?
posted by bashos_frog at 1:49 AM on October 28, 2004

zekinskia: While I don’t care much for speculation, and totally agree with your comment, I don’t expect it will go down well here. You will quite possibly be sarcastically derided. And if this thread referred to a situation wherein the involved parties were of different political persuasions, I expect it would look really rather different.

I find solace that Katherine Harris has to look in the mirror every day for the rest of her miserable life.
Why shorten the sentence?
