Nice link, homunculus, thanks. I'm about 70 miles east of the guy who wrote that piece. It's just below freezing temperatures tonight, the sky is very clear, and Orion definitely is out hunting, maybe for the Great Bear.

Neat essay!

When I bring auslanders to my parents' house in the midcoast (Maine), they invarably comment on how beautiful the sky is. I don't notice it ever-- I learned as a kid that the sky should look that way.
