I hope you understand (from my posting history, my metafilter membership and my spelling of "colouring book fun") that I don't actually think Brasco is A GOOD IDEA. Huh.

I'm really hoping that comment wasn't aimed (hnuurr) at me.

That sounds like something some kind of a crank would say.

Brasco makes "the right to bear arms" sound funnier. especially since bears usually have their asses shot at by hunters. a nice reversal, for once
me, I love the nutty Star of David/Stars and Stripes/Rifles logo -- priceless. it makes the Stern Gang look cool.
also amazing: "the Japanese people want to take Americans' rights to bear arms" part.
I guess Yigal Amir is a proud member, too. staunch supporter of the right to bear arms, that fella

this is too weird--are they going to use the arms against the fundamentalists who want us all to become Christians? and want this to be a wholly Christian country? or to help stop the dismantling of the separation of church/state? Nope. Sad, and misguided--all in one.

maybe they'll build a coalition with Christians for Time Travel, go back in time, give that unwisely unarmed Jesus a nice shiny Glock and let him bust a cap in this guy's ass

I'd like to see a hiphop-themed campaign, aimed entirely at young urban african americans in which rappers extol the virtues of gun ownership and second amendment rights. It'd be fun to watch the NRA types as their brains short out down trying to resolve the mental and emotional conflicts this would induce.

40 years in the desert wandering toward the Holy Land, some how they got lost and ended up in Montana.

The posters are real treat. The postcards however are treasure. Well I know what all my Jewish friends are getting for Festivus.

"Dialing 9-1-1- can be useless", didn't realize how much Jewish gun owners have in common with Public Enemy. Take that Farrakhan!

MiltonRand,
the "My Jewish brothers would not listen to me. Will You?" concentration camp poster is particulary tasteless and shameful, I had thankfully missed that

From reading some of this propaganda: I doubt that someone like Hitler or Concentration Camps would have been stopped by armed jews/citizens?!

Although Hitler did, just to be on the safe side, outlaw firearms ownership by Jews early on.

I'm just sayin'.

@ZenMasterThis: Well, even the upraising of many armed jews in Warsaw Ghetto didn't stop their decimation. Overall an armed citizen has no chance of overthrowing a full blown military machine - unless you can convince the military to join.

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was a very slow "house to house" defeat -- It went one for 2 months. I'm just sayin'. It's amazing what a few guys and a few guns can do.

The Right to Arm Bears
posted by bonehead at 11:59 AM on November 26, 2004

"I WANT TO BE ABLE TO KILL PEOPLE EASILY"... believing in the right to arm yourself isn't going to help you with that. Why? Because you also believe in the right of other people to arm themselves. So if you go and try to "easily" kill someone else, there's a very good chance they are going to fight back.

If you want to be able to kill people easily, take away their right to arm themselves, then you can just go shoot them (Obviously if you aren't worried about the morality of killing someone else, you aren't going to be worried about the fact that guns are illegal and you'll buy one anyway)

"Overall an armed citizen has no chance of overthrowing a full blown military machine - unless you can convince the military to join."

That's why a standing military is one of the greatest threats to freedom a society can face. We should abolish the military right now.

"this is too weird--are they going to use the arms against the fundamentalists who want us all to become Christians? and want this to be a wholly Christian country? or to help stop the dismantling of the separation of church/state? Nope. Sad, and misguided--all in one."

You think it is Sad and misguided that a bunch of jews just want to protect themselves instead of attacking another religious group? That whole Palestinian/Israeli conflict must have you in titters every night you watch the news!

"No country but America has a Bill of Rights". While technically true, I know of no other country that calls its legal guarantee of citizen's rights a "Bill of Rights", most first world nations have equivalent legal guarantees. Canada call its the "Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms", for example. In fact the Canadians have it a bit better than us Americans as the CCRF guarantees freedom of movement, both within Canada and to any other nation. Something that is not, actually, guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.

Speaking as someone who owns guns, and is not opposed to firearm ownership, I think the truth level in the Brasco the Bear propaganda was pathetic. As is the entire "the UN is evil" line; I think we need a better, more democratic, international body than the UN, but that doesn't mean the UN is evil.

What worries me is that some people would actually believe what they read there.

Yes, how ridiculous of Jewish people to want to protect their right to keep and bear arms. Everyone knows they have nothing to worry about, right?

Perhaps the ridiculous part is dressing up that desire in a load of the dumbest drivel imaginable.

Conceded, the rhetoric is as overblown as that of any group that doesn't spend much time getting to know the people they oppose. However, when it comes to firearms, MeFi has its own share of overheated rhetoric, so I'm a little skeptical that the comments here are purely in reaction to the paranoid bear.

On preview: I had the same reaction to that comment, Ikkyu2.

France actually published the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen (French) (English) a month before America published the BoR -- including: liberty, safety, property, freedom from oppression, the common good, the liberty to do anything which doesn't harm others (and not be harmed by others).
Pretty good stuff. Nothing about 13 year-olds shooting intruders with guns.

Sir Mildred Pierce -
So if you go and try to "easily" kill someone else, there's a very good chance they are going to fight back.

Surely these people are capable of one-hit kill headshots? Has the bear taught them NOTHING?

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. But guns help, because shouting BANG really loud doesn't kill people.
