Maybe next time you'll consider a sensible amount of punctuation in your title, more efficient use of the caps key, a more pleasant choice of language, a link description with a higher level of maturity and a larger amount of respect for the civility and intelligence of the MeFi community. Maybe. I hope.

Frankly, I think it was well said. After all, not all of us are intelligent, myself included.

Cut out about 2/3 of the question marks and it'd be fine, though the caps are a bit much. And 'fvcking speechless' would work for me.

Still. Zack left Rage. That's rather a big deal in my little clique as well. I trust Mr. de la Rocha knows what he's doing.

Consequently, I wonder if the band is going to continue. (Perhaps Sammy Hagar or Dennis DeYoung is looking for work these days.)

I expect it's okay to post a pointless comment in here.

Zack? Rage? Is this a boy band? Real World Poughkeepsie? A PlayStation game? What?

I, like, Epic Records, am "saddened" by the news. I only wish I cared at all about another in an infinite line of musicians leaving another in an infinite line of bands.

If you look at the trend the band was on, something like this was destined... Evil Empire had some good stuff, but it wasn't nearly the captivating record their first was. Battle of L.A.? Lets face it, "I am the Nina the Pinta, The Santa Maria" isn't exactly the material that built them such a large fan base.

It will be an interesting question whether the band continues. I think we'd al like to hear more from Tom and the band, but will the music continue without Zack's front-man activism? IF not, at least we have the countless rap-core spawns they have inspired.

You gotta do what they told ya!

hey, leave the guy alone. metafilter is for everyone, y'know. if he thinks that Zack leaving RATM is a big deal, then good on him. it's a bigger deal for me than say, hecklers crashing a gore conference call.

afaik, metafilter isn't an exclusive club.

Thanks for defending me, cheaily....Zack leaving Rage is in fact a *HUGE* deal to me (and now I never will see them in concert). However, I do apologize for the amount of punctuation on the title--was just my initial reaction.

hah parvati, it's Now ya do what they told ya. "You gotta do what they told ya" is pretty much the opposite of rage beliefs :) But I must disagree with your view on Battle of LA--it's an excellent CD, although I agree that Rage's first one was the best.

tomorama: "Maybe next time you'll consider a sensible amount of punctuation in your title,"
It WAS sensible, as the entire news line was still maintained to 1 line across.

"more efficient use of the caps key,"
Using all caps gives the entire news title far more emphasis. Is there a more efficient way of displaying that amount of emphasis in the same briefness of words? No. "More efficient" my ass....

"a more pleasant choice of language,"
Perhaps I didn't WANT a pleasant choice of words, as it angered me that Zack has left Rage Against the Machine. Who says every news post has to have a pleasant description??

"a link description with a higher level of maturity"
Mature people don't swear? Mature people aren't speechless?

"and a larger amount of respect for the civility and intelligence of the MeFi community."
Perhaps I was more concerned about making a statement of how big of a deal this was, rather than "trying to sound intelligent for the MeFi community."

Besides, under who's rules says everyone must talk intelligently and act completely maturely when typing on MeFi, even if it means holding back your true feelings for a particular subject?

I hope I've made myself clear, cuz this is gettin long

Rage, what is rage? Wait, I read the post.

See, INFORMATIVE CONTEXT would help. If everyone knew before clicking what the heck this was about they wouldn't have been ticked off at you.

Hey, grank... I saw Rage on the Evil Empire tour in 1997 and, oh man, did they ever rawk. (The opening act was Atari Teenage Riot, who I also have a soft spot for.) Just so you know what you've missed. ;)

I honestly thought you guys were joking when you were ragging on grank for posting his message all loud and cacophonous like that. You can't be serious...are you serious? Please tell me you're not.

Damn! Now i'm even more pissed off I missed them when they played at a tiny club near me in support of their first CD! I knew I should have went to that show!!

apparently during their Music News segment, Edge102 (a toronto-based station, with streaming audio) is going to go more in-depth into Zack's leaving.

I've no idea how in-depth, probably not terribly, but it may shed some more light on it.

If I remember correctly, Music News is on between 4 and 5 pm.
posted by cCranium at 12:31 PM on October 19, 2000

For those that missed it, it wasn't much, really. Basically, the DJ said that Zack often disagreed with the other 3 members on the way things should be run, and all the votes ended up being 3 against 1. Not in favour of Zack.

Also, the band actually had 2 management teams (as a result of the continuing disagreement) one for Zack, one for the rest.

Major label singer, leaves major label band. What was that phrase? Corporate music still sucks. That was the one. You may continue.

faithnomore my jaw dropped when I read your post...I would kill myself for missing that kind of concert of them, at a small club in support for their first album. Wow.

cheaily: "hey, leave the guy alone. metafilter is for everyone, y'know. if he thinks that Zack leaving RATM is a big deal, then good on him. it's a bigger deal for me than say, hecklers crashing a gore conference call."I made no reference to the subject of his post. I have no opposition to proposing a discussion on such a topic. I merely was questioning the method he chose to convey his message.grank: "Perhaps I was more concerned about making a statement of how big of a deal this was, rather than "trying to sound intelligent for the MeFi community."Don't try to sound intelligent. Be intelligent."Besides, under who's rules says everyone must talk intelligently and act completely maturely when typing on MeFi, even if it means holding back your true feelings for a particular subject?"By no means are you required to sit up straight and be a proper gentleman at any and all times. That'd be boring. One of the things I love about metafilter though, is that the community's posting habits are guided by a universal common sense. Also, acting intelligent doesn't hold back your true feelings. If anything, it enables you to express them more clearly. Please don't take this as me insulting you or calling you dumb, that's not what I'm trying to get across at all.
