Australia in pictures...

Australian Snapshots is one of those "give lots of people disposable cameras to take photos of their lives during a particular time" photo collections. In this case, the pictures were taken by Australians in regional areas during the 2004 Olympics. I know there are lots of these projects around, but they can often turn the ordinary into interesting or capture those things iconic to that community.

That's nice. It's refreshing to see something other that city life in one of these projects (not that I dislike city stuff). I did not know about this, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Oh and hi from another MeFiMelbournian.

They seemed to have left out a lot of the real regional Australia that I know.

What about good ol' Aussie outback traditions like getting pissed, beating up the wife, sniffing metho, complaining about the abos, living on the dole, torturing backpackers, burning down police buildings and voting for Pauline Hanson?

Perhaps those things are missing (I haven't looked at all the pictures). And without getting into an argument about ABC listeners/watchers: "150 disposable cameras were purchased and sent to ABC Local Radio listeners". That might shift the demographic of the photographers a little.

I am moving soon to Adelaide and have been seeking out more info (books, music, weblogs, etc.) about Australia before I go. This is great!
