As a despised and adored lesbian historian, I... The hottest date I could imagine (with a woman) would be an overnight escapade with... Camille Paglia. Yes! McSweeney's sums up her life in introductory catchphrases from the goddess's own Salon columns. How Dada. How cut-n-paste.

That was genuinely clever, as opposed to pseudo-clever.

About time too. Her "As a..." epithets have been the stuff of parody from the moment she started using them.

This is the first thing I've ever seen on McSweeney's that caused me to crack a grin.

Am I cooler now?

Thanks, Joe. :)

Way to point out content that's 2 months old!

ooh, slam!

But seriously: why does time matter so much on the Web? Why is there such a rush to be the first to learn of the meme?

I'm with you, solistrato. I find statements like this to be (there's that word again) elitist at heart. Not everybody knows about this stuff (myself included), so frankly I like getting turned on to interesting stuff, regardless of vintage.

Although I was tempted to rip whoever put dack.com on the board like it just went live this week. But I've linked to the redundant in my brief time here, so I backed off.

And yes, I'm happy for me too. :-)

Heaping on the laffs, how about the "actual salutations from letter writers [to Paglia]" down at the bottom?
