he's just not that into you

he's just not that into you. C'mon, I know you guys were wanting an Oprah post! Sadly I found this book actually helpful. I know I know, it's all supposed to be common sense, but when you have all this estrogen and all these shoes to deal with, sometimes we hear only what we want to hear. Anyway, my favorite line was where they mention somewhere that God made pets so lonely people won't call their ex-boyfriends! (my cat is the one who actually read the book for me, and she is helping me with this post.) I can't decide if I think it's inspiring that girls like Liz are 41, and still looking for someone who can love them as they deserved to be loved or scary. damn

Um...I'm happy for you?

Please ask your cat to at least skim the guidelines for a good post. Perhaps she could set her thoughts down in a daily "weblog!"

41 is the new 21. Rejection is the new hookup. Shitty chick lit is the new undergraduate major. A link to an Oprah book is the new link to an op-ed. Metafilter is the new livejournal.

I think this whole "newbie posts" thing is getting blown way out of proportion, but.... damn.

Ahoy maties, look off to the starboard and you'll see Orpah, arghhh, the killer whale, she be!

So when did the site change to Meh?!?-taFilter?

And FWIW, I'm glad he's just not that into me, he was creeping me out by staring at me all the time. And the flowers were a bit much, since I'm, well, a guy.

Wax my anus, blethercock n00b, I think you may well have posted the most flagrant example of stream-of-consciousness irrelevancy I've ever seen here! Bent congratulations, then!

fyi, some of us newbies (who are long time lurkers...maybe you could call us lurbies) really think out our posts before we post them.

I usually run a mental checklist

1. Am I reporting a post or giving an opinion?
2. does it reflect something to do with culture/arts?
3. Am I "thick skinned" enough if this gets slammed?
4. Would Jesus approve of it?

So while I've been posting a lot since new membership has opened up, I feel that I try to give informative posts. So just make sure to not lump all of us newbies into the idiot pile. (or who knows, maybe I've been on metatalk...I've not checked)

That's right; anyone over the age of 23 who is not married should just shrivel up and die. Man, I only got two years!!! I better lower my standards *right now*.

(I didn't yell and scream about this post- by george, I think that's a start!!)

I can't make my first post until next week, so I do feel the newbie posters' pain. But then again? I don't. (I mean, Oprah!? Nooooo!!! Fatal mistake!)

I'm incredibly confident that my first post is gonna kick so much ass & be so utterly fascinating that you will all immediately nominate me as your queen.

So I've got that going for me... which is nice, I think. ;)

superposition: The first rule of threatening to leave an online community is that you shouldn't post again fter your "I'm leaving now" post.

Not to join in the pile on, but geez.

super,

no but just chocking it up to experience is better.

So you made a post about Oprah. So what, so a bunch a people don't like her (including me). But maybe one person does, and that's you...and it was positive for you. So stick to your guns.

No, "fuck you, fuck you and fuck you" is immature.

Saying "I'm sorry you don't like my post, what was it that you don't like about it? Could you provide me with some honest and direct feedback on how I could make it better?" could provide you with some direction.
posted by Hands of Manos at 3:41 PM on December 13, 2004

no, superposition, it would have been better if you had been real. your post reads like dialog from, i dunno, The OC or some other insipid teen drama show. and of course, here you are now quoting a stoner movie.

Man, of course this had to get posted while I was on the subway. Still, better late than never.

quonsar, is it Super Troopers? Cause man, that movie made my sides hurt from laughing so much.

And superposition, don't quit because of this, learn from it and try not to do it again. It isn't that big a deal.

Consider the following:

"he/she/it is not just not that into you" doesn't have any literal sense..maybe "h/s/i isn't intersted in you" makes sense.

Also a lot of people don't have the concept of "the one" , the supreme almost omnipotent being that is supposed to fulfill our life and give a sense, direction or meaning to it...or to "complete" ourselves. Prince charming is just a reference dream, it must not necessarily be exactly like prince charming. Same goes for the perfect girl, She who is three woman at a time 1. charming in society 2.whore in bed 3.cook in kitchen.

All these are -reference- fantasies and imagery.

Hands: dude I'm scared. I'm not an Oprah fan either, honest. I just thought the book was good, and it's been hyped alot. I thought people would have some opinions on it.

Who gave all of you guys knives? and who picks on some one's cat, I mean really?

This feels like a break up, damn you Oprah!!!!!

There was actually a very thoughtful discussion of the book the day the Oprah show about it first aired, superposition, which can be found here.
