I came across the puzzle thread because someone mentioned it yesterday. Spent most of the day reading it. I was really impressed at how everyone worked together.

Coincidentally, I have the flu.

Here's my attempt.

Along the way, you should come across some interesting people - artists, scientists, quirks. I'd link them, but this is more fun.

The ultimate answer for each of the 16 clues is a single letter.

The 16 letters form an anagram for the 3-word name of a guy whose work is fascinating and appropriate for the season. He is your ultimate goal.

Hope this is fun. If not, I'm going to bed.

-----

1) "Died" + ([Fancy dance]["in"][head part] x Ireland)

First letter of our good friend's last name.

2)Find these four words.

a) small kitchen + astrological sign = famous scientist (7)
b) internationally, 2004 honors it (4)
c) IBM research puzzle (4)
d) middle name of man who discovered C254H377N65O75S6 (5)

Together they warrant 294 hits.

First off, what's the first initial of the daughter's father's first name?

3) There are many of these compounds in Wallace Carothers' invention. (6)

What's the first letter?

4) It could be a carbon triplicate or a a droid's nickname for his best friend, but it's actually your referral to another
answer.

5) What was the first letter of the daughter's father's "surname?"

6) The creator of the cotton avalanche, to his homies.

7)"[Obed's mama] + [wife of Skroob] + [(grassy expanse - 'n')]" = famous winged one

What's the first initial of the husband's last name?

8) Boolean phrase synonymous with "Spectacles of the Bluegrass State." (5 hits gets you to a great artist.)

Once you get there...

The third letter of the luminous flower of the 1970s?

9) Find the five following words.

a) Brand name of John's and George's collaborative, steely musical effort (8)
b) Architect, author, creator, entrepreneur, father, founder, maker, originator, parent, patriarch: plural (9)
c) The Hallmark of bad made-for-tv-movies (10)

Make it a phrase and it should get you 49,700 hits.

Primarily, find the 8th person in the 1990 cohort. What's the first letter of his last name?

10) The home state of the inventor of the windshield wiper is filed under this letter.

11) In what Admiral Carmona might call "wheezing," it's the letter that's slyly spoken of.

12) It's apparently the shortest Japanese death poem ever written. (Or not written.)

13) It's the 'C' part of l-tryptophan.

14) Find four words.

a) Only a geek would speak this precious language. (Ultimately you'll need to include the missing vowel. One of the two has

5 letters).
b) Baskerville, Gutenberg and the A.T.F. all made one up. (8)
c) One of the kinds they offer. (10)

Boole around with these four words until you get 3 hits.

What's the first letter of the last name of the man who loved roses?

15) Find synonyms for the following words. (Oops! Spell check passed right over those first two, even though they're wrong.
When will spell check learn to deal with such nuances of the english language?? Stupid spell check. You'll have to correct them yourselves before
you start.)

a) Site ( _ _ _ _ _ N)
b) Hew ( _ _ _ D _ )
c) Simple 2-word, 1st person declaration indicating what you do when you're done with the boat. (answer begins with a synonym

for 'pick') ( _ _ _ _ M _ _ _ _ _ _)
d) An asteroid's dent, but move the 'e' and add an 'o' for the wholly right, presynonymous answer ( _ _ _ )

Now, how would Boole turn those into 414 hits? (Your desination has blue walls.)

What's the first initial of the hero's first name?

16) Remember the cortisone guy?

ultrasonic broncheal beanstorms gust forcefully into the deserted corridors of our shame. in the distance, a tuscan shotgun barks under a vaporous moon.
