White House Considering Product Placement Deal All I can say is, I really, really hope this is a spoof article.

Considering this, I'd say "Yes, it's fake."

Good - I'm cynical enough as it is, and it's getting hard to tell these days.

Could you maybe figure that out prior to posting, since it took another poster all of two minutes to do so?

surely i have not been overtaken as the king (queen) of gullibility?

It's kind of sad that it comes across so plausibly. If someone were to simply tell me, "Dick Cheney is going to be in ads for Plavix," I'd believe them in an instant.

I think that's why Swift Report manages to dupe so many people, Faint. Its made up absurdity is just the next step in ongoing real world absurdity. Plus, it's pretty new so people don't universally know it's fake yet.

Kinda like when that church protested Harry Potter based on an article from The Onion.

Yeah, FormlessOne, The Onion also has some alarming news for you.

You know, this is really brilliant satire, if only because it's so thorough. Case in point - look at the ads on the site.

For instance, on this hilarious post about a new tax form to "ease the nanny problem" there's this ad for how to "bridge the communication gap between you and your spanish speaking illegal worker". The ad is obviously fake but the product is all too real.

Best of the web? Maybe not, but the satire is really well done - nice catch, FormlessOne

It's the Swift Report. Ok?

yeah, the onion hasn't really been up to snuff lately, in my opinion, particularly since the outbreak of the obnoxious click-twice-or-thrice-to-do-anything web design (print's not a problem, obviously). I feel like they've really started toning down their content since going to NY and taking on big-time ads. I mean, "The Onion Auto Guide Brought to you by the New Toyota Tacoma?" what?

on a more positive note, here's the christian onion, of which the satire/not satire level is completely over my head.

The White House is willing to sell out any principle.

Ahhh, "This is a win/win for our company and for the future of this country." What's good for Corporate America is indeed good for America. When art imitates life so convincingly, it hardly matters whether or not this is satire.

What Swampjazz said. The Onion is unbearable now, and is almost to the point of being a joke itself.

wow, that Lark news is really funny.

Bush Administration creates website to help homeless find jobs.

The press release (July 20, 2004) is here.

Considering anyone can walk in off the streets and not only use the internet at a public library but receive assistance from librarians, I am not sure why the creation of a jobs-for-homeless website is seen as so ludicrious.

George Bush endorses ComTek cue prompting equipment... for when 'le bon mot' just won't come to mind. Now 50% less bulge!

xmutex, please tell me you're kidding. You think your average librarian is going to come to the aid of the homeless, who are already turfed out of public libraries since they can't bring their worldly possessions - which they don't have anywhere else to put - in with them?

They're more concerned about survival than surfing job sites and putting together a resume, I'd imagine.

If your average librarian would not try and help the homeless person who came to the desk to ask about help getting a job, then they should be kicked out of the profession with a steel toed boot.

Has anyone tried to change their address recently? My 'must read' change of address notification from the USPS was full of more junk mail, advertisements, coupons, (an actual AOL coaster for f** sake) than actual substance...wait was there any substance? It was all crap, all straight from the postmaster general...and the best part was, I paid for the advertising! A perfect moment of synergy.
