Communication Grill Chang-tei: Chat powered barbeque. "You have to continue carrying out the chat with the partner surrounding a table. If a chat is stopped, the fire of an electric heater will go out." (via)

That diagram is just begging for a photoshop contest.

Looking over the Japanese version of the page (not very different, but a bit clearer), it seems that it's more a "project" than a product, so it's probably a hybrid art/design thing. And it's also apparent that the people who designed it either have an extremely subtle sense of humor, or have overlooked something important, because they're forgetting that in addition to "talking around the dinner table", some time also has to be spent eating the food.

Though I suppose if you smack loudly when you eat, it will register it as conversation and keep the grill on.

I'm so surprised they don't connect via Firewire.

Interestingly odd, but they clearly don't put any value in silence as one mode of communication (i.e. blah, blah, blah -- or else...)

That's scheduled for version 2.0, which surprisingly will need no computer and be considerably cheaper.

I guess you'd prepare the marinade for the meat with Blendie.

Sounded to me (and others) like you were ragging on the post by questioningly invoking the incredibly droll and hardly overplayed "Best of the web" tag line (you can sense my sarcasm, right?). There's nothing wrong with the post, and 'Best of the web' is trite and dated.

If you've been misinterpreted, my apologies.

Its a cartoon construct come to life. Kind of neat in the abstract but a tremendous pain in the ass in reality.

Japan is slowly replacing Poland as the land of funny jokes. I especially liked the boobie scarves, see through skirts and USB toothbrush. And who could ever forget a cute little wonder like the trunk bike.

Keep it coming, Japan. Your wacky is far better than our tacky.

China, on the other, needs to work on its quality control.

Eventually, the conversation turned towards the idea of going out and purchasing a grill that doesn't require you to fucking talk in order to get your steaks seared.
