Napoleon's got some serious competition.

That was great. He dances just like my brother, but my brother doesn't have a trombone.

Hit me with the horns indeed.

I bet that guy went to UW-Madison.

This guy is an utter douchebag, and yet his moves seem wholly appropriate for that music he's playing.
posted by DuoJet at 10:23 PM on January 25, 2005

Huh? Ok.

...for that music he's playing.

That music? You don't even know what you're listening to do you.

You tell me, what am I listening to?

He played less than 20 notes, none longer than a quarter.

Does he know any songs?

The look on Steve Harvey's face is priceless.

(Oh, and in case you just can't get enough...)

You tell me, what am I listening to?

As numlok indicated, it's Kool & the Gang, "Hollywood Swinging." It's from back when the band was a funk group (you can tell they wore out their James Brown records) and not just a backing band for schmaltzy pop songs.

For a snippet of the song, go to this Amazon sales page. Apparently they have also rerecorded it with Jamiroquai for a recent collection (whence the recent and awful Atomic Kitten hit).

Ohhh, he went to OBErlin. No WONder.

HAhahaha.

Awesome, that made the evening for me.

Amusing video, to be sure, but it was this comment that made me LOL.

My favorite part is the enthusiastic crowd.
They get into it and really make it work for him.

The NBC performance seems weak in comparison.

Gimpy skinbag's got nothing on Napoleon Dynomite. Nothing.

And he didn't even hurt his bone, err, trombone.
posted by Goofyy at 2:31 AM on January 26, 2005

What the fuck...? Was that supposed to be funny? And why were the crowd whooping and hollering like that? Ugh.

Good music done bad, amusing in a sad, nostalgic 'you can't touch this' way.

I really don't understand what you people are griping about.

Steve Harvey being posted to Metafilter? Isn't this one of the four signs of the Apocalypse? Or at least some sort quantum inversion?

This is disgraceful, proof of the existence of Satan or something. Additionally thanks pracow I'm getting dat song asap.

By the way, "Bring it trombONe!" might be the most labored pun I've ever seen in a FPP.

Read salmacis' post in the voice of an old white coot muttering into his prune juice. Comedy Gold. Great post, Manos.

Painquale, in the most non-sarcastic tone I have that I can convey over the internet, "thank you." If my fpp was the most labored pun in an FPP then, I rock. Because that doesn't mean my fpp is the second most labored pun but THE most labored pun, ever since 1999. I'm not sure many mefites can make this claim.

Also, I'm curious (and not baiting anyone, okay?) what is it that you (Salmacis, Painquale, JRun) find funny?

I'm really not offended by your statements, I really am being as sincere (and friendly) as possible. If we were in a bar, I'd buy you a beer and say the same thing face to face.

Worst FPP ever. I mean it. In the history of the entire internet. I mean, Hands... how dare you! Far worse than a double! You should be so ashamed. I don't know how you even dress yourself in the morning!
/sarcasm

I, for one, welcome our Trombone playin', freak dancin' overlords...

God bless him. I hope he got laid out of it.

He is a better dancer than a trombone player. He completely missed the final 2 notes. He misses even more on the NBC video on his website.

Oh shit. The running man killed me. $10 says all the people that didn't like it are the kind of killjoys that go to a concert, sip a PBR wearing their cabbie hat and stand in the front row nodding their heads. Get the fuck against the walls you tools, some of us want to dance.
posted by kavasa at 2:26 PM on January 26, 2005

wait, i sip guzzle pbr and stand in the front row and nod my head. ok, so usually i sing along. and i don't go to shows to dance.
