Tracy Boulian's sports photography is dramatic, humane, sometimes eerie, and sometimes simply beautiful.

Pretty good, but not quite to the level of extraordinary. Except for the horse racing pictures, I have similar versions of all of those. Most sports shooters do. He/She does have a nice style though. Good sense of light and moment.

Yeah, these shots aren't particularly special - above average, I suppose. The Sports Shooter website to which you've linked has countless better photographers with better sports portfolios. Do you know this photographer personally or something?

Crazy Finger, I don't know the photographer, personally, biblically, or otherwise. I saw the pictures in an exhibit at NYU over the weekend and was very struck by them, as were the people I was with.

I was happy to find them on the web. But clearly, they aren't striking a chord with others.

Yes, they're only pretty good but not great — and I like to pick apart photos as much as anyone — but give her a break. She's only graduating from college this month. It looks like she has a nice long career ahead of her.

I liked the basketball shot a lot.

I can't believe there's a random photo from my home town here.

Haven't been back in over 20 years - thanks for the link.

"Random Photo", now that's a great journalistic photograph.

The picture of Pat Day (the "humane" link) is wonderful. Thanks for the link. Good post.

I liked his/her pics but was really pleased to come across Sports Shooter. Great site with alot of good info and I think I'll probably end up taking better pics because of it.

Thanks for the post!

Boulian won the Silver Medal in the 59th College Photographer of the Year competition, and you can compare her work, which won the SportsShooter.com's annual competition in the student category, against the winner of the professional category.

Tracy's NYU home page. She's been shooting professionally for newspapers since before her senior year in high school.

Here's one example I found with a news angle (Iraq war protest).
