Buttercup Festival, my favorite local cartoon, has been retired. You can still find everything but the first volume in the archive. Kind of like a college calvin and hobbes (though it's much better than that sounds), Buttercupfestival stars a very confused goth kid, the mysterious off-panel man, and Rodney, the second grade t-ball jockey.. my personal favorite

This has been my favorite webcomic for a few years. I always thought the main character was some sort of aspiring grim reaper.

Thanks for the post es_de_bah.

i've read the first two collections, and the creator claims it was supposed to be a kid who's so goth that he always dressed like the grim reaper. and yeah, emptybowl, I had to read quite a few before they started to grow on me. nothin's for everyone.

This is a double. BCF was posted here just a couple of months before it went kaput.

Also, you're editorializing too much! I've never heard him called a goth kid before... I've always thought of him as a young grim reaper or something. And its not an off-panel man talking... it might just be a figment of his imagination (or, the fourth wall).

Yeah, here it is:

Oops, missed the bit where Elliott called him a goth kid... that's too bad, it takes the mystery away a bit. He's been notoriously mum on the off-panal word bubbles, though.

its too bad the text is so illegible. that's practically a cardinal sin in comics.

sorry for the double post...honestly didn't imagine he'd enjoyed much success outside of the pioneer valley...

and 'goth kid' and 'off-pannel guy' are roughly how garbauskus refers them in his books...

I was greatly saddened when I read that Elliot was discontinuing the strip... It's been my favorite for a couple years now, I think. But, at the same time, I wholly sympathize with his reasoning, and will certainly be waiting to see his new works.

(I think the end of Buttercup Festival is well worth a post of its own. Hell, I would have posted it myself if I'd thought of it.)
