SpongeBob Goes to Church With the recent kafuffle over SpongeBob's perceived sexual orientation, the United Church of Christ felt it was only fitting to extend to him an invitation to attend their inclusive services. Apparently, he accepted the invitation.

That's cute. Not as satisfying as, say, pictures of Dobson burning in the fiery pits of hell, but still.

You know, make good feel good is better then make fear be in fear...you can whistle it you can sing it you can scream, the song remains the same.

But at least it's a change that seems positive, not confrontational..better then a kick in the arse I guess.

Go, UCoC! One time I ever went to church with anything approaching regularity it was a joint church under the UCoC. The message was suprisingly uplifting and enjoyable for, you know -- a church and all.

Outside the sign read "All Are Welcome" and I thought that sounded mighty friendly and properly American.

I know it is popular to be cynical about religeon and its place -- I myself was just now trying to figure out some git phrase about the Jehovan ladies who were rocking outside my peephole at an ungodly hour for a Monday morning today, especially early to be chanting "Thank You Oh Lord", etc.

It is refreshing, however, to see a well-meaning group of Christians for a change. Somehow Bob seems refreshed by his experience. (on preview: nope, must be "just stupid" as am regular non-attender)

Yeah, these UCoC people prove to me internally that its not that I hate religion, its that I just hate people who hate me.

Wow, this made me feel good. I'm not sure why but it did.

Now I'm wondering about the sexual orientation of the church's other fictional character. I mean, if God comes down to earth and picks up 12 guys to go cruising with, what would you think?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I wish people would stop grouping asexuals in with homosexuals. In fact, I wish people would stop paying attention to sexuality period. Unless you are interested in someone, it's none of your business. Even then, it's none of your business.

Eideteker -- I believe that's the point the UCoC is trying to make.

I got the sensation that they were trying to say "We accept gays; it's OK!" but alright, that could have just been me. I think I would have felt better if they had invited a few other toys/stuffed animals along and not just Spongebob.
