odd. there was recently an investigation into the abuses during pinochet's years and the report (in spanish) could be found on the govt web page. one of the apendices included god knows how many thousands of names and all those people are going to receive some kind of compensation. the offer was initially around 100 pounds a month (about the minimum wage), but there were protests that it was too low. since then i've not heard any more, but haven't been following the news much.

so, anyway, there is going to be compensation anyway, independently of whatever this bank is doing.

(so, doing the maths, the bank's payout would be enough for about three month's minimum wage for each victim)

sorry; i mixed pounds and dollars, so it would be significantly less. point being that chileans are giving decent compensation to the victims, not rich american banks looking for a little (relatively) cheap PR.
