Not sure why, but the photo "Sergeant Dunn (weather forecaster) & Staff, 189" (under "at work") reminds me of a turn-of-the-century internet startup.

Anybody know the source of the light eminating from the southern tip of Manhattan in the photo featuring the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building under construction?

keswick: It's fuzzy, but my guess is 40 Wall Street (the Trump Building, fka Bank of Manhattan Trust Building), which was the tallest building in the world for a few weeks (when the Chrysler Building topped it).

Did it have some sort of beacon or search lamp in its spire? Do you see how a beam of light seems to be shining from it to the north?
