Comprehensive list of Palms

list of all current PalmOS pda devices and this list of discontinued PalmOS PDAs. Has a good list of pretty much every PalmOS pda that has come out in the US. Has the basic information of the PDA, including processor, memory, extra features...all in a nice organized chart. Even has links to reviews of these PDAs. And it could help you find a PDA for this.

oh yeah and it runs linux....

Yeah, but does it run DopeWars, sourbrew?

Surprisingly, both of those lists don't appear to contain my Palm, or rather, even the random parts that it is currently made up from.

The face bezel and battery door on mine is from a clear/ice Palm IIIx. The mainboard, buttons, back bezel and flip-top screen cover are from a Palm IIIxe. And the screen, digitizer, and additional 2mb flash are from some IBM "series 1" WorkPad.

Now if I could just obtain or build some kind of really tiny KVM or A/B switch to intercept and redistribute the ribbon cable for the screen and digitizer, I could stuff the 3 other Palm III* mainboards I have into one case and have a multi-machine system in my pocket.

Loquacious

Hell yeah it is running the same OS as the Zaurus so pretty much anything written for that will run on the Archos with a minimal recompile. Also since its linux you can write your own.

Heh, my brother ran linux on a Palm I once. Apparently he had to telnet into it through the serial port to do anything with it, as the poor little processor was too overwhelmed to handle anything else.

if i remember correctly, the handera TRG was pretty much a palm IIIx and the IBM workpad was the same thing as the Vx, so TECHNICALLY, they're there :-p

was that meant to imply a double post? If so, I think it's only fair to point out that this post provides a lot more than just a link to the PalmOrb.

in other news: is there a resource like this for pocketpc?

They're all here - every standard model sold in the US - and a few that aren't (but no phones.)
No phones? People still buy PDAs without phone capabilities? Why?

obviously because PDAs with phone capabilities secretly send your stored data to the secret toothpaste conspiracy headquarters. If you have scheduled tasks or phone numbers, the toothpaste people will know about it.

Yep, it's silly to limit these lists to PDA-only models. Converged phone PDAs are where all the fun has been for a couple years now. Oh, and PalmOS rulez!!!!!

honestly though i think that mp3 players, palms and cell phones should be really small. When you have a PDA/phone device it's huge. I really dont like the idea of carrying a brick around. The advantage of having a different unit for a cellphone and pda is that sometimes i dont need a pda and can save space by not carrying it.

I don't think so. I think it was meant to point out that EvilKenji has made two similar front page posts of limited interest in two days. It probably would have been better to combine them, or to add the second FPP as a comment in the first.

Well then I guess I'll allow it.

But... sometimes I WANT a brick. You get a cellphone/pda/mp3 recorder-player/sat radio/swiss army knife combo that's the size of a pack of gum, and I lose the thing way too easy. (Not to mention the damn screen fonts are getting microscopic. What's the point if you've just got to drag around a great whoppin' lens just to see the screen?)

Smaller is better works to a point - then smaller just plain gets annoying. A Handspring Neo's about as small as I'll get...

I hate bricks too. My PDA/phone is tiny. No mp3/radio/BS, just Palm PDA and phone (and a few internet capabilities thrown in). Just because you held a Kyocera 7135 or a Qualcomm colossus in your hand 3 years ago and hated it, doesn't mean things haven't improved since then.

As for screen size, it's fine. Really, the water's fine, come on in.

OK, back to the heavier threads. Must go find jonmc crucifying himself ...

The killer app for PalmOS, for me, is Bhajis Loops. It's a full-scale sample-based music sequencer with plug-in effects, a good archive of sounds (all of General MIDI plus various other waveforms), and the ability to sample/record sound through the built-in microphone. Since buying a copy, my commutes have become a lot more creatively fulfilling.
