This monkey business has finally gone too far [warning: cackling].

Good news is that it went to a good cause. Bad news? A stain on science textbooks forever.

My dog *looooves* the cackling monkies. Thank you devildancedlightly, she will never look at me resentfully for using the laptop again.

At least fark didn't win.

[That little floating advert in the first link is really bloody annoying. I nearly stabbed it with a pen.]

That casino CEO is greedy. Monkey, walking stick AND 1/2 eaten cheese sandwich!

The monkey looks similar to another I've seen....umm....howler maybe? It actually sounds like a cross between a howler monkey an a kookaburra.

um..got enough tags there thedevildancedlightly? ebay wtf?! goldenpalace.com deserves a tag?...think someone will be looking for it down the line.....? And where does advertising come into philantropy.......they'll probably shave it's new name in it's fur.
/snarkoid digression *sigh*
It actually was interesting in an 'only in America' sense.

errr....that's a bit unfair....I withdraw that last sentence and probably the bit about philantropy too........oh hell, sprinkle salt on whole of last comment

peacany - no offense taken, tags were "ebay" because that's where GoldenPalace buys 3/4 of their stuff, "philantropy" because this sort of half-assed philantropy (the money did go to a conservation organization) is fascinating, and goldenpalace.com because I'm sure that we'll have another thread about it.

Oh, when the monkeys take over, we're gonna *pay* for this one. Anyone else

"This species will bear our name for as long as it exists," Rowe said. "Hundreds, even thousands of years from now, the GoldenPalace.com Monkey will live to carry our name through the ages."

Ha. The way Bolivia appears to be going, GoldenPalace.com monkeys won't live through *this* age, let alone any others.

There's something so viscerally disturbing about this.

You're right, this shit has got to stop.

Matt, could you buy us an endangered species? PLEASE?

I'm waiting for the Danny Bonaduce monkey.

Good news is that it went to a good cause.

I'd like to live in a society where the money was funneled directly to scientific endeavors and didn't have to be routed through 16 inches of pure diarrhea before arriving somewhere worthwhile. I know... I'm dreaming. But is it really good news that the dollars fly out of our pockets into a shithole like GoldenCasino.com, only then to occasionally be dribbled out to good causes in return for humbling the scientific community before a band of yeasty online marketers?

That's a funny definition of "good news," if you look at the big picture.

(nice post - thanks)

IMHO, GoldenPalace Monkey doesn't sound that bad - it's the ".com" that ruins it for me.
