We reproduced a life-sized version of this in which people were induced to disappear, using nothing more than a dark room, a disco ball, and a spot light.

eeeexcellent. I love this stuff, thanks. I studied it for years but it never gets old to have it happening to you.

This has been my desktop background for some time now (I always think of it as MeFi Default :) - it was also made into blotter paper at some point by someone (can't find the link :P )
I'm determined to have it made into real wall paper one of these days! (My attempts with the Rasterbator haven't been great yet).

In addition to motion-induced blindness, I also suffer from motion-induced hairy palm.

Is there a name for being more or less suceptible to this stuff? Would it imply anything?

Great collection of stuff! I was disappointed at first not to see the animated-GIF version (where the square moves from one place to another) of the checkerboard illusion, but this version is actually just as good if not better.
