Corporate anthems as a musical genre and a marketing tool. There are lots to listen to here, including the Open Source Song.

Oh no, please no. Not the free software song! Please don't listen to it, people. It only makes the whole free software movement look worse.

Eh. I don't find them any more embarrassing than national anthems. Or any less embarrassing.

Which hurts more, Stallman's version or "Fenster's"?

It's a trap!

Talking about Corporation X's {horrible|wonderful|mediocre} anthem generates brand recognition. The composition of the anthem is irrelevant.

This is insidious spam because it dupes us not only into devoting our attention to it, but also into sharing it with others.

So, like, your school didn't have a school song: "In 1650 the school began / With 12 boys on the roll / They bent their wills / to the grim book drill / For the good of body and soul" ... no?

sing along, everyone:
I'm just a (DirecTV) bill, yes I'm only a (DirecTV) bill,
but without the regulatory fees and taxes of cable, I'm lower than your optimum TV bill...

There was an article in this month's Business 2.0 about corporate jingles. You need an account to read the whole thing, but BugMeNot should help with that.
