at this point I guess that the whole "MILF" concept has been stretched a bit too much

My god... She's about 75 years old. I'd kill to look that good at 75.

VINCENT
We're lucky we got it at all.
Buddy Holly doesn't seem to be much
of a waiter. We shoulda sat in
Marilyn Monroe's section.

MIA
Which one, there's two Marilyn
Monroes.

VINCENT
No there's not.

Pointing at Marilyn in the white dress serving a table.

VINCENT
That's Marilyn Monroe...

Then, pointing at a BLONDE WAITRESS in a tight sweater and
capri pants, taking an order from a bunch of FILM GEEKS --

VINCENT
...and that's Mamie Van Doren. I
don't see Jayne Mansfield, so it
must be her night off.

The comments thus far seem to be ignoring the main point, which is that she has a heavily left-wing and very intelligently written (whether you agree with the points of view, which are pretty standard lefty) blog.

Holy shit, she's still alive?

I thought she died in a carwreck. Who was that, Mansfield?

Thanks, nanojath, for steering this back.

Here's to ya, Mamie. And your former fiance, too. Marilyn got Joe, Mamie got Bo.

Thanks, nanojath, for steering this back.

Yeah, let's talk about leftist politics. We don't do that nearly enough.
posted by jonmc at 5:45 PM on May 21, 2005

Although, truth be told, the leftward direction is odd considering Mamie was once a member of Nixon's CREEP.

Kellydamnit: Who would you kill?
Anyone who holds the secret to apparent eternal youth (or early middle age) and/or gets in my way. I figured that was obvious enough.

But yes, on topic.
Um... I thought we didn't like blogs written by celebrities, even if they were left wing?

But, in any case, it is well written, and she is a lot smarter, or at least politically aware, than I figured she would be. But it doesn't really say anything a million other left wing bloggers are saying, too.

It appears that the secret is lots and lots of plastic surgery.

I'm betting she's a vampire, cmonkey, but you could be right.

Mamie Van Doren quoting Edmund Burke. The only thing I would expect less is Edmund Burke quoting Mamie Van Doren.

(BTW, is that the same color/font scheme as Mefi's default in the main text? Kinda looks like it...)

(And is that a Tom Wolfe book Bush is carrying in this picture?)

She must have a great plastic surgeon.

As for the political change, it's not entirely odd. The right wing hasn't budged much on social conservatism since Nixon's day, but they've become horrible with their no-tax but still spend policies. Not the financial conservatism of days gone by.

That, and with the USSR gone, the leftist/communist stigma has lightened up. For all we know, she may have just been worried about getting on a McCarthyite list. Or, the Occam's Razor of explanations, people change with time.

That, and some of her stories would be howlers at a left-wing party, whereas they'd earn scorn and damnation from a lot of the right wing these days. Especially accusing one particular Mr. Universe of being... miniscule. Hooray for unconventional feminism?

It looks like her bew-bees are always trying to escape.

That's a nice pair of boobs. Disregarding the "for her age" aspect of it. NSFW and all that.

Until I see a real eye-opening close up without her make-up, I stand by the following statement: I'd hit it.

She's twelve years older than my mother. That's unpossible.
posted by jsavimbi at 12:02 PM on May 22, 2005

That cannot be the original Mamie VanDoren. There is no way that the woman in those photographs is 75 years old.

Cadaver chic. Love it.

Nah, she's only 62 (or 64, depending on what date you believe), but she's still older than me, and I'm older than dirt.

Raquel Welch is 5 years older than my mom, and I'd still like me a peice of that. Age ain't nothin' but a number among grownups.

According to IMDB she was born in 1931, wouldn't that make her 74?

I'm disgusted, and aroused, and disgusted by my arousal. I'd hit it and hate myself.

I thought the website was for a Mamie Van Doren-impersonating drag queen.

Actually, I'm still not entirely convinced it isn't.

Kellydamnit: I blame my appalling lack of math skillz on the killer cold meds I'm taking. (Heh heh heh)

That, and the fact that my brain backfires whenever I consider that a 74 year old would TRY to look like that.
