Did anybody else notice that?

Did anybody else notice that? Speaking on behalf of .com design interns everywhere, there's really no incentive to try and come up with hot graphics - ours is a thankless job. However, there's still no excuse to be completely lame.

I kinda like the second one. But then, I'm completely lame. ;-)

They missed the neato one that had the stars and stripes superimposed over the White House... it looked like someone tie-dyed the whole building.

I like the one with the check boxes coming out of their heads. They look like empty square thought balloons, which I think says it all.

The second or the second-to-last are the best ones in my opinion. But truthfully, I can't imagine that there isn't a better option out there.

Is it me or is someone pumping gas in the background of the first one?

Watching the various news sites' coverage election night, I was kind of struck by how quickly the design dudes could come up with a new graphic. After all, it was an election night that pretty much ruined any pre-prepared graphics.

"Florida! We need a Florida graphic that connotes indecision!" Who knew?

grimmelm: a friend of mine used to make graphics for a local television station. For the most part it was just applying text to the standard graphics (ie, someone's name that pops up on the bottom of the screen) but occasionally he had to whip something up for late-breaking news in under five minutes.

He had a massive library of imagery available to him, and a couple of well-used filters to run on them (transparency being everyone's favorite) and a couple of guidelines to follow, but I heard stories about him getting the graphic out 10 seconds before the story started.

The crazy bastard doesn't even recognize the level of skill involved in that sort of thing, either.

perplexed, I think it's a hand and a ballot box. That first one, that is.

Don't the 2nd and 6th ones make Florida look like a gun aimed at Bush's head? Do I smell forshadowing....?

I like the 4th one. It kinda says:

Gore: "Huh?"
Bush: "Huh? What?"
Gore: "Huh?"
Bush: "What?"

Etc. etc. etc.
