Steffen Jahn photography - A Flash site with a wide variety of photos: commercial work for exotic cars, flowers, planes and landscapes. Personal favorites are 'motorsport' in the 'stills' section and the 'little white things' section.

Atrocious navigation.

No thanks.

Yeah, that site is a little tough to get around. I stared at the first photo for a minute or two before I noticed the tiny Next/Previous buttons on either side.

Cool. Airbrushed images of cars attempted photorealism, and now these photos of the cars look as if they are trying to imitate airbrushing ...

Nice pictures. I like the Zeppelin ones particularly.

It's too bad that Flash makes the site so slow and confusing. And that the pictures are pretty small. Why do so many photographers do this?

yeah, I agree with the lousy navigation. Seems cool at first, but after a while the fading and sliding etc. starts to be irritating. Not to mention the streamlines and that horrible noise (I had my sound turned off the first time I browsed the site, otherwise I had warned).

Why do so many photographers do this?

Not sure, but best guess: to slow the viewer down. So they linger a few microseconds longer over each image and actually think about each one while viewing. It's a little distressing to watch folks click through your work as fast as they can thinking they've 'got the idea' aready in a fraction of a second and just keep clicking furiously away until they see something they like. Maybe it's an artist thing.

But yes, in this case the nav is especially quirky. Most obvious technical no-no here is when control points inexplicably move around: when you click the vertical menu that appears at the right it goes on a little trip over to the left side of the screen, never to return apparently.

Nice pics, but Flash. interface. must. die.
