Heavy Metal Wonder Woman

"Heavy Metal Wonder Woman" [nsfw] With Wonder Woman being rumored to be in pre-production with Joss Wheadon at the helm, the character of Wonder Woman and Lynda Carter seem to be seeing a steady interest if not resurgence from feminist film installation artists and fans of the William Marston idealistic comic character.

WTF?

Seriously. WTF.

i came across this on blog called "pink is the new blog" thought it was funny, and interesting and definately bizarre. it's obviously one of "those things" designed for a gallery like dira birnbaum's film. i just think its compelling and ironic to see comic art become fodder for high-art.

From the website - "A hysterical hybridization of the Wonder Woman comic character, superhero cartoons, Betty Page stag films, and Death Metal performance. "

Oh, so that's what that was.

I still don't think I understand, did they run out of money for the green-screen?

boo. a crappy video does not a good post make.

Observations of the creator of this film:

1. Women have been stereotyped in a number of ways
2. Stereotypes of women and the mold of a superhero interact interestingly
3. I've got this great stock footage of a woman dancing while dressed as Wonder Woman, and my friend has some bandwidth available

Ah, high art indeed!

Joss Whedon?! Well, I can write that one off already. tsk tsk

Now that's how Wonder Woman manages to give the impression that she flies -- she "pilots" a transparent plane.

Other than that, I'm giving the choregraphy a F -- and I'm being generous.

Whilst that was the lamest video I've ever sat through, you did point us to a pretty decent website of time-wasting videos.

Drunks at work pretty much explains how I felt after the wonder woman 'hysterics'.

I'm not sure how old this is, but the something awful interview was pretty funny too.

Why is the video marked "nsfw"? She doesn't get nekkid or anything...

i wasn't sure about the heavy metal part so i labeled it nsfw - plus the metal music is pretty loud. - i loved that something is awful interview - channey!

If, unlike mischief, you are interested in the Whedon version of Wonder Woman then check out an extensive interview with him where among other things he talks about his current thinking for the project including such revelations as:

"I do not believe [Wonder Woman] will be flying. I think we have a guy who flies. I don’t see her flying. She might jump. There could be some hopping. And there may in fact be an invisible plane. But if there is, it will be because it came out really cool. And I have theories about how to make that work."

The best part was when she danced out of sync in front of the green screen.

I don't know, maybe say..... the blood streaming from her vagina???

newsflash jp: women bleed from their vagina every month. it's normal, and not to be feared.
posted by bizwank at 4:29 PM on August 5, 2005

so, bizwank... you have several pictures of blood streaming from vaginas hanging up at work, then, do you?

I ask purely out of curiosity.

Her invisible plane really isn't invisible, more like a Plexiglass plane withought an engine. Ideally, she should have a cloaking device like the Klingon ships in Star Trek.

I for one, loved it. Dancing smiling girls in superheroine outfits... though she did look a bit "hearty". Which everone adores.... hearty sweaty, slightly hairy wonderwomen.

Matt, can we have a sidebar menu like the one on Doro's site? Oh, OK, thank you.

"i just think its compelling and ironic to see comic art become fodder for high-art."

Fodder is right. Senselessly and needlessly thrown into the battlefield of art, to be expended in a pointless, futile effort.

The video blows in a crappy, boring, pretentious, "artistic" way.

I look forward to Wonder Woman getting the "Catwoman" treatment. Not.

Wonder Woman is, it seems, a terrible dancer. And they didn't go far enough with the original comic's bondage themes.

well in defense of this peculiar film, i'm the one that applied "high art" to it. i didn't know how else to describe it, because it wasn't low art, and it wasn't narrative. it definately, in my eyes was a "WTF". but i thought it was funny. in any case, art is subjective and too each their own. :)
