Save Social Security... and Roller Derby Too!

Today (if it's still Aug. 13th where you are) is the 70th birthday of the Roller Derby (being duly celebrated in Chicago and elsewhere). Tomorrow (unless it's already Aug. 14th where you are) is the 70th birthday of the Social Security Act. Compare and contrast...
(Round-numbered birthdays and anniversaries, you gotta love em. Hard to believe Burt "Robin" Ward turned 60 last month... but that "American Gothic" paining is only 75 years old.)

Thanks Wendell. A couple of months ago I got a wild hair about Roller Derby. I'd heard it was making a come back and wanted in on the action. Then a I got a look at some of the painful looking injuries on the Gotham Girls website and realized that I wasn't 25 anymore. Boo.

I'm still looking forward to the Duke City Derby girls getting things together to watch bouts. woohoo!

But, a couple weeks after this fit of enthusiasm I met a 60-ish year old grandmother who regaled me with tales of her Derby Days. Good times, I tell you what!

Thanx, caddis, I felt a little guilty providing more links about the Roller Derby than the SSA. BTW, GO TBIRDS!!

For putting SS in peril, Bush will go down in history as probably the most uncaring president in our history.

Bush will go down in history as probably the most uncaring worst president in our history.

Fixed, for her pleasure.

Burt Ward is SIXTY -- holy aging TV stars! That tidbit is more indicative - to me - of the March Of Time than many other such anniversaries.
