Poom!

Friday flash fun! Try Poom! You move a constantly changing floor around in a virtual 3-D space so that a ball will bounce on it. Curiously entertaining...

There goes the rest of my day. via zannah

My brain hurts. Anyone know what the mirror does? I only saw it once at around bounce 25.

Woo-hoo!

Three, damn it. THREE.

I think I have the hang of it now.

I found it much more enjoyable after turning my sound off.

This game would be much better if the really-high-bounce thingies appeared more often and weren't quite as good. As it is, you're pretty much guaranteed not to do very well without one, and most games don't get one.

The mirror thingies suck -- you break right through.

34 bounces, 4000 points, getting tired of it

The nuclear tiles are fun.

61 bounces and I think I'm done.

The key is to watch the shadow.

I can't even enter my name...

kika: click on the name field with your cursor. That had me stumped for a while there....

The other key is to always go for the bouncy things if there is one.

ah, I found this a while ago and loved it.

OK, 78 bounces, 8650 points, on a lucky game. I STOP NOW. Really....

You guys, the trick is to always try to make teh ball bounce on one of the tiles. If you can do that, you'll really do well.
posted by TheStorm at 2:42 PM on August 19, 2005

That was very difficult. Until I noticed the shadow.

I clicked on the name field. Didn't work.

But now I tried again and I could enter my name. I don't like it though. Mapping a 3D interface onto a 2D coordinate system is hard. And in this case not very well done, IMNSHO. If the fun of a game is in the learning of the controls they lost me.

Yeah, I agree, kika. The shadow lies, sometimes. It will appear on top of the coin, even though you're going to miss the tile entirely. Bad, bad projection.

the key is to put mark on your monitor that shows you where the ball comes down. a bit of a cheat.

that's annoying.

Even with an inkspot on my screen, it's still really hard -- dunno why.
posted by alumshubby at 3:21 PM on August 19, 2005

Kinda fun, but the 3D plane is just not registering with me. I can't connect the depth of the ball to the depth of the plate.

this is really hard with a trackpad, I will play it when I get back to my desktop.

nuclear tiles are definitely key to winning. haven't played it in a few weeks, but first game had 63/5900.
