Deadheads go postal.

I hope they lace the glue with LSD, just like Jerry would have wanted.

Why not? Plenty of other musicians have had their own.

Really, how hard is it to get your own stamp? Is there a tough committee or anything?

Reagan's body was still warm when they put out a stamp for him. I'm sure Jerry will get a stamp one of these days.

Since all stamps are self-adhesive lately, I guess you could lick the stamp, but you might not be able to get it off your tongue.
Or maybe its for the envelope, since its going to be tripping anyway.

How much of an honor is a stamp anyway? Are we really honoring Porky Pig or the ash tree when we put them on a stamp?

It's a way for you to gladly accept a tax.

"Jerry is God,' wrote signer Annie Dahlkemper.

"He did more for this country than any U.S. president ever did,' added Tim Lynch.

OK, that's it. It's time to round up all the baby boomers and stick 'em all in a retirement castle, they've gone senile.

The acid goes under the stamp, not in the glue.

Jerry, on a stamp - oh yeah! Put the acid under that one baby.

Well, of course.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but has "honouring" things on stamps been a fairly recent phenomenon in the USA? Was Elvis one of the first?

Been doing it ever since I can remember in Oz.

Why not? He's got everything else.

Stamps (at least of the postal variety) aren't a tax. They're a way for you to pay for the service of delivering your envelope from here to there. And we shouldn't even complain about rate increases -- just convert to "pennies per day" and you'll see that the delivery charge hasn't gone up in years.

Appearing on a stamp is no longer an honour when anyone can print their own.

Wow, the acid is thick in this thread! I think I'm halucinating posts that are figments of my imagination!

McNally pointed out that Garcia was already gathering honors. Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream, one of the company's top sellers, is named for him.

by the same logic we could argue that since cosmetics, an entire apparel line and bejeweled sex toys have been named after Jenna Jameson she deserves a stamp, too.

Five years after she dies, I'm up for that petition. In the meantime, a stamp honoring the contributions of bukkake to the (internet) economy would be wonderful.

Hell yeah, I signed!!

I'd buy and use lots of Regan or Elvis bukkake stamps.

Hell, I'd even buy the mineral and hummingbird bukkake stamps.

I clicked expecting bloody Deadhead on Deadhead violence, but no... it was a story about postage.

You tease.

Phil Lesh drove a truck for the USPS, put him on a stamp. You can have any picture made into a stamp, why not a picture of Jerry?
posted by fixedgear at 5:58 PM on August 22, 2005

Hey, even Casey Jones has a stamp.

The postage would be double. HAHAHAHA!
How bout a stamp for Willie Nelson good for 2 oz on up?
Britney Spears stamp: Your male will be delivered sometime soon.
The Rob Schneider stamp. Terrific for delivering bombs.
I have more. Oh, so many, many more...

Stamphead activism is a big deal in DC. I remember a few years back how the American Chiropractic Association tried to get a commemorative stamp issued for its 100th anniversary. The American Medical Association lobbied hard to block it (they've clashed with the chiropractic profession for eons) and succeeded.

klangklangston, you mean Stamp it Out?

I had no idea there were no lick'em and stick'em stamps left anymore, caddis, you've just darkened my world just a little bit.

I'm too way-laidback to google it, but I seem to remember that I have read before about Garcia stamps minted in remote African countries solely for the purpose of selling them to American Deadheads at a profit.

Not sure I'd want to lick that...

"postal stamp republics,'

Hah, I still remember a banana shaped stamp from some Pacific Island (Tonga?) which came with all the starter collections when I was a kid.

Both Tanzania and Montserrat sell Jerry stamps...

No, for a while you could upload images and they'd be printed as real stamps (it just cost more than regular stamps). I wish I could find the site...
