A more efficient microbe genome. A more efficient sorting algorithm. A more efficient keyboard layout.
That sorting algorithm link is really cool -- in a geeky sort of way.

I guess I should mention that the core of this FPP has been rattling around in my head since I read Kevin Kelly's Out of Control like 9 years ago. So it's hereby recommended to anyone seeking more of the same.

Get A-Life is an interesting look at evolution in the context of computer simulations. It doesn't start getting good until the second page.

I liked that line.
The keyboard link is really cool. I didn't really understand the sorting link very well.
