Del.icio.us for books

Reader2 A very nice social site allows you to keep your reading list and - main purpose - find something interesting to read looking at users with similar tastes, or similar books to those you added, or just by browsing the site.
There's also another one - which has no competitors yet, for software - MyProgs.
P.S. Those are free services.

This is me on MyProgs. The new look over there is ugly though. The minimal del.icio.us look from last month was heaps better.

It seems like social software for libaries is the big thing now. I posted about LibraryThing recently, which looks to be quite nice--endoresed by languagehat, even!

There's also listal, if someone interested.

Err, I mean listal.

The problem with Reader2 and LibraryThing is that they are ugly as sin.

I love it when people's posts completely contradict their handles.

The problem with Reader2 is its a link farm to Amazon with "reader2" user tags to generate profit from the goodwill and work of others. Pirates!!

I wish someone would replicate all the features of Amazon (review blogs, rateings, user lists, suggestions, etc..) without the commercial trappings, and open source the content of the reviews so they can be exported.

Reader2 allows the person entering the review to generate their own link, to amazon or elsewhere. The reader2 tag is entered only if the user tag is left blank. I don't see a problem with that.

From the Reader2 blog:
Some stats from Amazon associates program:
1050 clicks, 35 orders.
11 already shipped, which resulted in $6.60 - at 5% referral rate. All this for 2 weeks, with ~2000 unique visitors daily.

I don't see any problem with them using associate links. The site needs to cover it's costs and as Manjusri said users can replace the amazon link with their own.

ARR! Self-linking DOG you'll repent for your sins in Davy Jones' Locker! Have at him boys, and spare not the lash!

But seriously - Kuchin, is this a result of you linking to this page or does it actuallly mean you linked to your own site?

That's always poor form, but especially if there's Amazon referrals involved...

Well, I wanted to post it on the TextAds and/or on the second site with mailing list, which were advised for self-linking, but both are non-functioning...
And you would prefer me to submit it with different nick? I could have done that, it's not that hard - but I preferred to keep my nick.

kuchin, from the guidelines: Posting a link to your homepage and asking for feedback is a bad post. Self-promotion isn't what this site is about.

As for the "And you would prefer me to submit it with different nick? I could have done that, it's not that hard", I say "huh?" followed by a "wha?"

No, ye pansy-livered cancerous piece of a dog's ass! We don't want your self-posts at all, and with all your sass and ill-temper, we've half a mind to feed you to the sharks! Arr! We don't like bean-counting accountants trying to make a fast buck off the honest pirates on this beauty of a ship, and we'll paint your ass with rats blood and hang you from the top-gallants if you keep it up!

I don't know about this "sea plus plus" ye speak of, but only the Law of the Open Sea! And that demands ye pay the ultimate price for this crime, right smart! And only a beancounter would be so devious, you can't fool me ARRRR I can see you now in your tweeds with your books and your bookmarklets with your lobster-cock and your watered-down grog ARRR yer a pox on the weather-stained face of this good crew and we'll pickle you in the blood of the next passing leperous whale.
