As if things weren't tense enough between Taiwan and China. By the way, the standards for ship designations have inflated over the years. These "destroyers" would have been considered light cruisers in WWII.

They have been considering the desroyers for awhile: Navy confirms interest in Kidd-class destroyers. There seems to be little noticeable concern here about these issues - though the mainlands purchase of Superfast Torpedoes (among other high tech. weapons) from Russia is perhaps a concern for all - most people are far more concerned about the stock market. Personally I wish Taiwan would spend some of the money they spend on high tech. weapons on alleviating the traffic congestion here in Hsinchu. But thats me.
