Illegal immigration into the United States from Mexico is, for the people coming across, a dangerous and not always successful method of trying to live and work here. The Mexican government has published a booklet (english version) which is distributed with some popular comic books and is designed to both discourage citizens from crossing over and offer advice on the dos and don'ts of safe crossing.

Reactions north of the border to this are predictably mixed.

CBC radio news this morning mentioned the problem California farmers are having finding workers. A quarter of the crops may rot in the fields. The diminishing number of migrants who successfully cross the border can earn two or three times the minimum wage pounding nails on construction sites.

My heart bleeds for them. Perhaps next time, they'll start a business that is economical without breaking the law.

Illegal Mexican immigration is more akin to a 'soft invasion' by Mexico.

The least expesive way to control illegal immigration would be to offer State Hunting Licenses, with no bag limit.
Cross the border at your own risk, will be the next Comic book filler put out by the Mexican gov't.

It would also mean that only the healthiest, smartest and most agile would be likely to make it across.

Give us your poor (or rich), agile and sneakiest.

from the booklet:

"Salt water helps keep liquids in your body. Although you may feel more thirst if you drink salt water, the risk of dehydration is much less."

Is this true? I have always heard that salt water dried you out and made you go completely insane.
