Yeah. Because nothing says "energetic, highly intelligent acrobatic mutant" like...Kelsey Grammar?

And thanks for the warning about the embedded video, always appreciate that.

Squeal!

A very manly squeal, mind you... *cough*

I'm not sure about X3. It could turn out but so far the movie history odds are against.

1. Bryan Singer not on board
2. Went into production without a completed script
3. Seems to be trying too much (Angel, Beast, Fenix)
posted by aaronscool at 5:40 PM on December 5, 2005

What's an X3? Why should I care? No video here at work, so count this as half snark, half honest question.
posted by foozleface at 5:42 PM on December 5, 2005

Any chance of telling me what the fuck X3 is in the actual post? I had to click the link and endure loading the laggy, shitty trailer just to see the title.

Yeah the odds are against.

1) It's a franchise movie.

1b) It's a comic book adaptation.

2) This is the 3rd movie.

3) X men is fucking abominable shit.

Great marketing opportunity! Would succumb to again! A+++++

Movies like this are why Hollywood MUST die.

On the other hand, America does need a stiff dose of apocalyptic zero-sum, us-and-them, violence-solves-all bullshit to help nurse our self-righteous xenophobia along. Think of it as a metaphor for the the "War On Terror"; root for the English speakers.

I have found there to be very little correlation between the quality of movie preview (especially action movie preview) and the quality of the movie itself.

"Ultimately, the problem is held within the devoted sector of the university as the "controversial essential." The admirable traits though of the intellectual merit, precisely what is is never the intended question. The group held that the crisis was not the foundation but the firmness of it. Today it is still fraught with trouble and the arguments to or against continue to be developed. Contemporary thought leads one to think that it is not the war itself, but the trouble of the symbolic connotation as is the source of the foundation. The event in which the masses believed to most great, would be nothing but the devoted sum of the culture. Americans and Europeans at large must face this err and continue to do so until one side or the other cuts to the truth. The question remains of what the intended question was, but the foundation of which is uncertain. The wrongly presented work leads one to believe in the former. The latter remains unresigned in both media and lectures of the well known politician. The local academic journal writes, "He is admirable in that his academia is of equal strength to his zeal." The trouble remains however, though the trans-historical and trans-narrative depths have yet to be fully understood. Yet researchers all agree, the immediate result is quite clear, but the foundations of which remain incomprehensible. Where will this lead us in the next decade is a mystery to remain for both parties. "

I liked the first one, loved the 2nd, and dread the third. Ratner is going to screw the pooch on this one so badly. This should be the best of the bunch, the Dark Phoenix story. Instead we're going to get a piece of schlock that will make the Fantastic Four look like Schindler's List.

Comic book movies can be great (Spiderman, X-2, Batman Begins) in the right hands. But a hack like Ratner is not going to get us there.

Never a fanboy of X-Men, but Logan is who I want to be when I grow up. With Jean Grey as my SO.

That movie looks horrid. This FPP is teh lame. Ed what would happen if we all posted every freaking trailer that was released? What discussion did you hope to spawn? Some lame debate about bad costumes or favorite mutants left out of the script? Is that really Metafilter?

Too bad they have a lame director and bad casting, but oh well. At least we can look forward to a Superman movie where he teleports and has gadgets instead of super strength. Oh and his suit is alive, and he can't fly, and Lex Luthor is an alien spy from Supermans unexploded homeworld.

Upon finally viewing it I can say, in an informed voice, that the trailer sucked and did not elicit any desire to see the movie. I would, however, like to see some mutant on mutant porn, say Storm on Jean Grey.

bashos_frog, if it starred Ice Cube again then would it be 3X to the Ice Cubed?

Eh. I appreciate the heads up. No worse than the video game consoles, computer hardware, browswer, etc...etc...links.

Kelsey Grammar could actually pull off a decent Hank. One of the requisites for the character is an intelligent and witty personality, something Grammar has formed into his niche area.

I'll reserve my judgement on the movie until it comes out. Ratner doesn't exactly inspire me, but he does have two films to sit down, watch, and mimic, mimic, mimic. The Dark Phoenix storyline is a great one, but if I recall, it gets kind of weird later on, involving space aliens, etc...etc. Still good, but weird. I'll have to look into my book collection.

*yawn*

It looks completely generic. Perhaps the movie's good, but the trailer's about as exciting as a monster truck commercial.

Actualy, superman can fly in the new superman movie (and he wears a blue and red suit). I wonder how much of that will change between now and the film's release date. It's in post-production now. The plot:

Plot Outline: After a long visit to the planet Kypton, the Man Of Steel returns to earth to become the peoples savior once again and reclaim the love of Lois Lane. (more) (view trailer)

Well see, even though I'd tend to agree with the cries of "trailer trash!" I have learned much in reading this thread without even having to open Quicktime over Windows (UGHUGH) so this alone makes it worth it to me.

1) No Nightcrawler - booooo!
2) Kelsey Grammer as Beast - wtf... the voice I can imagine, but in the actual getup... not so much.
3) Dark Phoenix - yay
3) No Gambit - boohoohoo. Rogue and Ice guy from X2 was wrong, Gambit + Rogue = <3 4 evar!

And I am the only one feeling love for fleetmouse for the Sideshow Bob hair on Beast?
