It's not the camera that'll steal your soul

"I'm gonna come down there and break your (expletive) neck." In another camera-shop-of-horrors story from a New York retailer, the would-be customer gets not only verbal abuse, but also a threatening voice-mail message (links to audio included). Via recent victim Thomas Hawk (with links to a brick-and-mortar recon and a short mashup).

What the hell is it with Brooklyn and shady camera stores? Anyone remember Palace Camera on Ocean Avenue, the granddaddy of them all?

We're going out of business. You won't be able to get this deal tomorrow! Cash or charge?

No, the strap and manual are extra.

As before, I would recommend staying away from the discount camera stores that advertise in popular photo magazines.

(except of course B&H Photo)

I have a coworker that almost ordered a camera from WaWa Digital just last month. When she refused all the extra accessories, he called her stubborn, hard-headed and stupid, but that seems like nothing compared to what he said to this guy!

They should be forced by law to say "Goverment regulations require me to inform you that our better business bureau rating is unsatisfactory, how can I help you?" when they answer the phone. Or not.

another brooklyn scam: selling ridiculously under-priced panasonic dvx-100's, customer receives the shell of the camera with nothing inside.

Like greatfefilte, I, too, ask "What the hell is it with Brooklyn and shady camera stores?"

I remember shopping carefully for my Sony TR-101 back in 1993... I saw all those New York camera stores in the video mag ads, heard the stories, and thought, "Oh, those rip-off artists will all get shut down soon and that'll be the end of that." Twelve years later, same old same old.

WaWa's phone number: 718-627-7111

pressed 200 for customer service and got voicemail

In my best Guido impression:
"You better not pick up, bitch. I’m gonna to come down there and break your god damn neck. You heard me, alright? Kid, you better hear me, bitch. Do you hear me, BITCH? Yes, you’d better believe it. You’re in biiiig trouble, my friend."

pressed 5 to mark the message urgent
pressed 9 to deliver message

Too much fun!
