If MacGyver were a bartender ...

ExtraTasty, Please Hope Me! I'm throwing a party, but I've little more than vodka, a marshmallow and some cocoa. No problem! The idea is simple enough. Search by tags, by beverages or just enter the current contents of your bar to discover user-submitted combinations and cocktails. The offerings are a little paltry right now (only three entries for vermouth?), but I'm confident that further exposure to the right crowd will result in a massive alcoholic corpus not seen since the Potent Potables section of The Library At Alexandria fell into ruin. (A new idea from the people who brought you Threadless T-shirts.)

I suppose this became a necessity once the Cardoso fell into disuse.

Or you could just go to iDrink, put a checkmark next to your ingredients, and it will give you many, many more drink recipes.

There's no Angostura [flash site, annoying litejazzsteeldrum music] in the ingredients list. Hell, no bitters at all. WTF? Cocktails without bitters? Barbarians.

Ditto Webtender

Doesn't let me add ingredients with safari.

Pliskie: "Cocktails without bitters? Barbarians."

Quite. It's defo not a patch on Webtender (which is where I go to solve my frequent 'only weird booze left in the house' problems).

Some wine is fun , but too lead to a lot of problems including
(alternative on Wiki)

plus the realling boring stuff is that it's all a chemical illusion..you know like going to war is good and ok and all that bullshit illusions.

elpapacito : ..you know like going to war is good and ok and all that bullshit illusions.

WE GET IT. You don't have to contort yourself so hard to arbitrarily insert this glib sentiment into a post that is actually in the spirit of metafilter.

What spirit? Oh, gin.

hmm... the site works for me in Safari, & I've got bitters. Though it's still a little rough around the edges I think ET will be much better than those other sites mentioned.

I just would've waited a while to post it. bad first impressions and all

I would've waited to post ... but I thought that MeFites might want an opportunity to populate the nascent ET database with their favorite pancake and pony cocktails.

Elwood: Harvey and I have things to do... we sit in the bars... have a drink or two... and play the juke box. Very soon the faces of the other people turn towards me and they smile. They say: 'We don't know your name, mister, but you're all right, all right.' Harvey and I warm ourselves in these golden moments. We came as strangers - soon we have friends. They come over. They sit with us. They drink with us. They talk to us. They tell us about the great big terrible things they've done and the great big wonderful things they're going to do. Their hopes, their regrets. Their loves, their hates. All very large, because nobody ever brings anything small into a bar. Then I introduce them to Harvey, and he's bigger and grander than anything they can offer me. When they leave, they leave impressed. The same people seldom come back.

I wish these things had the recipes sorted into two categories: "Actual Drinks" and "Crap Some College Kids Mixed Together One Night."

No Angostura Bitters is certainly poor, but Extratasty is obviously better than iDrink, Planet Lounge or Webtender because it features ingredients tags.

droogle is another fine spot for "indexing the alcoholic web" (searching over 25,000 mixes) but I get the feeling a lot of the drinks are designed from sheer desperation.

MrZero, desperation is the mother of invention. I never would have thought a cocktail made with prune juice could be tasty but it was, she thought so too!

Once my friend and I raided her aunt's cupboard, and all we found was Lipton's Tea, and gin. Sounded fine. Oh yeah, we were 14.

I couldn't stomach to drink tea again for years, let alone gin. FEH.

Webtender has been my mainstay for many moons. Nice to see other links, esp. 'droogle'. This reminds, me, a friend has a recipe for a delicious 'n easy Poor-Man's Mojito, I need to jot that down.
