brilliant socio-economic-physicality comment

So did this star your girlfriend, or something, olbidadle?

I would have eaten the cake.

Other than that, I'm not quite sure what I just watched.

So true. So true.

Is this supposed to be for religion, or mocking it, because it failed to be effective in either direction. In fact, direction might be a bit of an antonym with this... film.

It's considered bad form to post a Quicktime link without a warning.

Do all religious types seem to have a creativity chip missing in their brain or something? I guess the message is God likes fat people and really bad cinematographers. I did like the credits where they call the main character Fat Melissa - as if we couldn't tell she was fat.

Does anybody recognize the music at the very beginning? I'd like to know who and what it was.

You know, this was awful, but there was something I liked about the characterization of Jesus. I totally thought he and Melissa were gonna tongue kiss after the "beautiful" song.

But I am at a total loss as to the point of view. And I can't believe I just used part of my Saturday morning watching that. Need more coffee.

For anyone who doesn't want to watch a long Quicktime movie that really doesn't have much of a payoff, here's the executive summary: young woman in unconvincing fat suit gobbles sweets, sees sign promising to help you lose weight in FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS, calls number, Jesus appears, has her meet him in church where he tries to show off his omniscience but keeps getting things wrong (oh, and he's carrying a big cross which she keeps having to duck as he swings it around), they both sing bad musical numbers, finally he tells her he needs her help (I think—the audio wasn't coming through very clearly at that point) and they both walk towards a door with a sign that says VOTE HERE - VOTE AQUI, and as they approach it the camera zooms in on the crossbar of Jesus's cross and shows a Bush/Cheney 2004 sticker on it. That's it. I have no idea what point of view it's trying to convey (though if I had to guess, it would be "fat people, Republicans, and Christians are all dumb"), but I hope that my sharing the experience of watching it with you makes it less of a waste of several minutes of my life.

Hey! There is a shot of the Yummy Taco sign where I get some Yummy Taco made by a nice asian family! They have a great website as well. Check out the history of mexican food. Yummy.

Thanks for the summary, languagehat. I only made it through a few minutes. Instead I went for a bike ride in the rain that was much more entertaining and enlightening.

languagehat, I just wish you'd posted that earlier...

Now I'm wondering if they got the idea first and then went and looked for a guy with long hippie hair, or had a guy with long hippie hair hanging around and thought of ways they could use him, and settled on the worst possible one. Hmm. I'll be pondering this socio-economic-existential question all week.

That was a long wait for a stupid punchline... if it was a punchline at all.

I like when people are creative enough to write musicals. But I don't like when they can't record decent audio. Spend the extra money for individual lavalier mics, or don't shoot at all, I say.

Thanks. I only made it to the part where Jesus started singing (and I spent most of the girl's first song paying more attention to scratching behind my dog's ears) before I just gave up and came back hoping someone would just tell me what the point was already.

Now I know it just didn't have one.

More brilliant commentary, less not-so-special effects and singing next time, please.

For those of you who didn't suffer through an adolescence filled with hackish amateur evangelical art projects: Yes. This WAS hilarious. I'm with Miko, tho. I kept waiting for melissa to first-base it with Jesus.

I tried to give it a chance, even though it looked like it was either a bad fat joke, or a bad anti-fat-joke. When the singing started, I hit the back button.
