It's the Australian Blog Awards! Once again organized by Keks and not those clueless Smartyhost guys.

the guy calling smartyhost cluless reads like a highschool hipster complaning that his lunch table was invaded by the popular kids.

I mean clueless.

More like the gallery director pissed that the judging is being done by entertainment celebrities rather than art critics. They seem to have chosen judges for their position and reputation, not whether they have any involvement in the 'blogosphere'.

eg. "Richard Lazaar, Managing Director, Professional Public Relations."

Australia! Blogging since 2005!

I had no idea about all this going on. I love it how not a single one of those I would have nominated, which have been around since 1999, have been nominated. I love it how some people seem to care about the awards :)

The [Insert Something Here] Blogging Awards may tend to be a big load of crap, but they're also a nice way to get a good overview of the blogging in that respective subject. Start there and work out until you find something good.

delmoi, firas,

I haven't been following this very closely, but there's been some serious allegations regarding this.

ie. Outright fraud.

The gist of the above link:

For newcomers, a quick chronology:

• Cable-stropper Jodi Wright won $10,000 for publishing Australia's Best Blog.

• Charles Wright, one of six judges, expressed reservations about the adjudication procedure, in particular that two co-panellists awarded Singing Bridges an inordinate number of points.

• The Professor did some googling and found, amongst other interesting facts about the art world, that the winner and two judges were all part an online arts community that appears to have no more than 80 Australian members.

• Also, that a friend of one judge was visiting Rose when champagne happened to have been handy.

• In a comment, Razor Wright said the Professor was "adrift", but declined to say why or name the judges of whose methods he had himself been critical.

• Jodi Wright poured out her heart, saying how unfair it all was and how nasty her email had turned. She didn't, however, answer the key question: Is she friends with/known to/well regarded by any of the judges. In 1,340 whiny words, you'd think Jodi could have satisfied that matter. But no, nothing.

Sorry, I could have put all that in one post instead of three - too quick to hit the Post Comment button

What is it with bloggers and scandals? Soon there will be a magazine dedicated solely to 'blogdrama'.

Reading through all this, I'm glad I had no idea it had all been going on. I'd been worrying about losing touch with the Australian weblog world in the last year or so. Now I no longer care. When did weblogs all turn to crap, exactly? It's dissapeared up its own arsehole.

Weblogs, or weblog awards?

Both. The whole scene. Maybe it's just me, and I've become a pathetic bitter old goat who remembers the good old days when men were men, Virulent Memes and Anthony J Hicks and Burgatronics were the peak of the Australian weblog scene, and weblogs weren't all pathetic political news-blogs or sad teenage diaries.

Australians shouldn't be allowed on the internet.
