RIP, Cody the Buffalo

Cody the Buffalo has passed away at the age of 19. In addition to being in "Dances with Wolves" with Kevin Costner, Cody was also in the film “Radio Flyer.” He also appeared in several commercials, and even appeared with Jay Leno. Last spring, he traveled to the U.S. Mint in Washington, D.C., to participate in the unveiling of a new buffalo-head nickel.

I curse the soul of anything, living or dead, that can claim involvement with "Radio Flyer".

I generally say the same thing about nickels, but I'm just being nice.

"...the big guys favorite treat. (Oreos and German Beer!)"

They actually fed it beer?

Cody? Bit of irony there. Although Buffalo Bill Cody did work towards conservation....dispite killing lots of buffalo for the railroad.

Oreos and beer. Jay Leno. It’s all one piece.

Meh. White folks chop down forests and name their streets “Oak” and “Maple.”
Same deal.

Although if I were a buffalo I’d do ads for KFC - I mean you don’t want folks eating beefalo.

Since we're on the topic of famous dead buffalo, I'd like to give a shout out to one of my favorites: Big Medicine (1933-1959), who was a rare white bison. Big Medicine [pdf] was an inspiration for art (here's Monte Dolack and Frank McCarthy's versions) and was considered sacred by many tribes. You can still see him today at the Montana Historical society (scroll down).

I kinda assumed that Oreos and German beer was everyone's favorite treat

I heard about this on NPR and I don't understand why it merited news coverage.
