So... is this real?

'Real' as in real government propaganda aired on government TV news, yes it is real.
'Real' in the sense that is this a functional and useful branch of Iran's police, not so much.

BTW, hincandenza wins!

Now, what would truly be funny would be someone remixing it with a bunch of obviously-male-falsetto voices ala Monty Python.

i think it's pretty cool, but what's the deal towards the end (1:07 in video)? Are they using nunchucks? Because if they are, that would be pretty freaking awesome.

When i become an evil overlord, all my henchmen will dress like Iranian Policewomen and will me armed like ninjas.

i will expect them to rappel off of buildings daily, purely for my amusement.

In Islam, isn't it strictly wrong for a woman to knowingly have physical contact with a man who isn't her husband or close relative? Seems like making some of those arrests would get her arrested herself.

No, I don't think it is. I think there are particular sects of Islam where this may be the case. It's the same thing as what sort of clothing Islamic men and women should wear. In Pakistan and India for example you won't see too many Chadors.

Firing handguns out of a moving car window? Running from an explosion and diving to the ground? Are you sure this isn't a video showing the dedication of Iranian stuntwomen? I was waiting for one of them to pull that car up on two wheels.

Also, this is unintentionally funny. Especially that diving to the ground part.

I think those are chadors, but anyway, to address your point: I think wearing one of those every single day of your adult life, you would get pretty good at making sure they didn't get caught in stuff. Your brain is good at learning all sorts of unconscious physics relating to things you deal with every single day.

And on the other hand - look at certain martial arts movies where actors / stunt people do some incredible moves that look impossible considering their wardrobe (large, flowing bits of fabric and stuff). It can be done, but I'm thinking it takes a fair amount of skill.

I guess it is just propaganda, but I'd still like to believe that an Islamic country might be moving in the right direction. It's a shame America fucked Iran up so badly, but maybe they can recover after all. Having women in visible positions of authority, let alone working outside the home at all, is a great step. Not quite as great as rectifying their double-pronged legal system, but a step nonetheless. Another great step would be to let them wear pants.

I don't know if it's America's fault that Iran is such a mess right now, but they did do a pretty good job fucking over Iran, yes.

The US:
1. Organized the coup that ousted the democratically elected Mossadegh and replaced him with the Shah, who was a fucking despot. This US loves their foreign tyrants.
2. Sold weapons to Iran, their enemy, and Iraq, their friend, during the Iran-Iraq war, because, well I guess they didn't really care which side 'won'.

Also Bahrain has had women in the Military and is certainly getting more and more modern. Once the oil wells dry up I think the Middle East will be MUCH better off. Oil has been nothing but a blight on that region of the world.

Yeah, Iran would have probably been better off without any oil. If that was the case, fucking BP wouldn't have talked Eisenhower into deposing Mossadegh, that's for sure.

The Shah said he'd trade all our oil for a plentiful water source. But even if we didn't have any oil, we'd still have the second largest reserves of natural gas, and plenty of minerals and metals that some other country would've wanted for themselves.

Ok. Sure.

But. The Revolution happened in 1979. It's 2006. Yes, we were an exceptionally bad parent. But. At what point does the child take up the gauntlet of responsibility for it's own frigg'n actions? 2106?

I'm not making excuses for imperialism, but really. C'mon. Monkey? You guys are basically laying islamic extremism on the backs of the US? That is a load. We may not of helped temper the growth of Arab extremists - but they have been around a long long time BEFORE we meddled in the place.

If the US did not exist and Iran was allowed to evolve from Mossadegh to now - you don't think there STILL would be an islamic republic - or at least it's reactionary elements - growing in Iran right now? Sure there would.

Mossadegh was fighting Islamic extremists, too, dudes.

Next you'll be telling me about reparations.

That's just a matter of opinion, but since we're stating our opinions I'd have to disagree. Yes, even if Mossadegh hadn't been overthrown there would have still been Islamic fundamentalists in Iran, but I doubt if they would have been in charge. During the Cold War, the US got really good at shutting down leftist organizations abroad. The CIA used the Marxist Toodeh Party to depose Mossadegh, which sort of killed two birds with one stone; the US managed to get rid of Mossadegh and bring back the Shah, and the Iranian people rightly blamed the Toodeh Party traitors and never really trusted any leftist organization again (for the most part). Also, in the years following his return to power, the Shah exiled Khomeini and therefore made a hero out of him which paved the way for Khomeini and the mullahs to hijack the revolution.

But I do agree that at some point countries have to take responsibility for their lot despite outside interference.
