Idol 2.0

Google Idol is perfect for people who want to embarrass themselves in front of large audiences, but couldn't make it onto the American, Arab, Australian, Brazilian, Canadian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finish, French, German, Icelandic, Indian, Iraqi?, Malaysian, New Zealander, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Singaporean, South African, or Swedish incarnations of the show. There's also, of course, YouTube Idol.

Since Google Idol is not affiliated with Google, Inc. and YouTube Idol with YouTube, there is likely trademark violations at play here. Interesting to see if either company cares and/or will pursue the matter.

Oh thank you, O Google Idol people, for putting it all together! It's a perfect meme for such a site and I'm personally glad to see it because I haven't been able to keep on top of these videos. Anthony & Katy's "Since you've been gone" near the bottom is awesome.

Totally agree, VulcanMike-- Anthony and Katy rule. I pressed play with great trepidation, but now I so totally would have beers with them.

I have an ad on milliondollarhomepage that brings me nothing but spam from other wannabe sites, including Google Idol. When I got Google Idol's email, I thought it was something from AdWords. I forwarded it to my friend at Google. I hope these idiots get shut down, or at least have their name changed.

by all rights, this should be horrible stuff.

but it's not.

Pomme & Kelly's lipsynch to "Respect" rivals the Lonely Island SNL skits for sheer Google video awesomeness. And apparently, there's a lot more where that came from.

i'm suprised and impressed and pleading with myself not to even think about trying it.

that is really cute and amusing, actually.

But we all know Pomme & Kelly are going to win.

I hope they go on to internet stardom. I could look at Pomme (at least I think that the brunette is Pomme) for many years to come.

Pomme & Kelly = awesome. I also hadn't heard "Gangsta's Paradise" in probably close to ten years, and I got the nostalgic heebie-jeebies.

A moment of silence for the original Pop Idol. I had no idea it went off the air after season 2!

I have to admire the guy in the back, playing lord-knows-what computer game, studiously ignoring "The Back Dormitory Boys" as they emote to "As Long As You Love Me."

The matching Adidas tracksuits are a nice touch.

heh. and of course, Pomme & Kelly have a blog.

thanks, thilmony. now i have a music video crush. *swoons*

of course, the problem with having a crush on the internet is that everyone's been there first.

While some things are just soo bad they're good (Snakes on a Plane, anyone?), some things are just soo bad they come full circle back around to bleeding awful.

This is one of those things.

BTW: LOL at Iraqi Idol.

Iraq did actually have it's own Idol contest last year (note link to video on right of page). And of course Iraqi contestants have appeared on the above-mentioned SuperStar. And for those wondering what happened to the UK, Pop Idol was more or less replaced by Simon Cowell's X Factor.

Hurrah, Pomme and Kelly are featured! As blacklite says, they can't lose.

Have been worryingly obsessed with their songs for a while now...
