My niece is one of his models. I feel a little awkward scrutinizing these to figure out which pictures she's in.

Wow. Just wow. Those are some incredibly gorgeous photos. The work seems very Pre-Raphaelite and does a wonderful job of seperating the subjects from mundane constraints such as time and gravity.

Remind me to lash myself to a ships mast when the sirens are at play...

Beautiful. Thanks.

Isn't it nice to forget about gravity for a little while?

These are well-composed photographs, not just novel snapshots. *applause*

Beautiful photos. Thank you. I've always loved Daniel Chester French's Andromeda and this photo is equally lovely.

Especially love the title of this one. (NB: For those who are really taken by Mathews's work, note the generous offer on his flickr bio page.)

Good post but I really really don't care for the columns and website design. Photos are
good attempts, but I think the true masters of underwater nudes and models are
Howard
Schatz
and Zena Holloway.

Graceful, haunting, images. Great post. And thanks for the other links, ig. These are wonderful!

A few stunning photos, but then he breaks out angel's wings and turtles. And check those titles! Perfect for the unicorn crowd.

I've downloaded honest-to-God underwater porn with no artistic pretensions. None of it was what I'd call hot (although a few bits were impressive for totally non-sexual reasons).

Alas, just one token male.

Ig...thanks for those links. I was frantically trying to remember Schatz's name, and I'd never seen Holloway's work before.

Yeah, a few are definitely 'great technique, shame about the artist'.

And check those titles! Perfect for the unicorn crowd.

I was having to consciously avoid looking at the titles for fear that they'd ruin the good photographs for me.

And I swear I've seen these on MetaFilter before - not a post, a comment maybe?

This spinto soprano just finished a run singing the part of the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music

That's my favourite bit of the whole thing .

I was reading a great book today:
" The DIXONS book of how to Photograph Women. "

Beautiful stuff. I was worried that "underwater nudes" would be really cheesy, but these are simple and lovely.
