They certainly make yachts big nowadays. Er, yeah.

Paul Allen's little pleasurecraft was in town last week. We went past and checked it out. Quite nice.

Jesus, Paul Allen and Larry Ellison have 400+ft yachts? That's getting beyond megayacht and is more like mini-cruise ship. Where on earth do you sail in something so big?

That thing was like a cruise-ship, mathowie. There was a helicopter on board (inside, behind the basketball court), and it was parked at the commercial wharf. Four or five radar domes. It was very nicely appointed, though. Shiny new paint, polished wood, a security guard standing by the gang plank.

Allen and Ellison I can understand, but why does Jesus need such a big boat?

yachtpron. Some people have more than one.

Haven't we done this before?

Anyway, you don't impress me unless your megayacht has a moon pool. With a shark shaped submarine. Which shoots lasers.

The global exploitation of the human race results in some more people being able to afford luxuries previously only known to those who could only exploit a bit of the human race.

What about that really fast yacht which you can't steer at its top speed? The one in which everything looks opulent, but is actually made of veneer, like a posh trailer, in order to cut down on weight. Extreme yachting!

Jenga you are so going to burn in hell.

This is the real meagayacht! Love went into this. Love and work. And dire midi music. Lifts made from fork lift truck parts and shower doors! Via the other website.

Some guys never get over losing the pretty girl to the football player. If you want a short explanation for the why any man does anything in this world the answer is "they are trying to get laid"

The yachts are nice and all, but I would rather chew my own arm out of a bear trap than go anywhere with that Kim ass ( in the NSFW "i" link). I don't know who he is, but wallowing in his self-promoting "Kimpire" made me queasy.

Yeah - who is that Kim guy? "The world's best web design company." Sure, if your design tastes run to swords, bad pseudo-heraldry and animated flames. And who is the guy designated "HRH" in that photo set? His Royal Highness of what?

The FPP raises more questions than answers!

That really doesn't explain why I spend so much time on Metafilter.

That Kim guy is awesome. At least he's straightfoward and honest about his ego. Also, he has run and a number of Gumball 3000 races, and won at least one of them. I thought he looked familiar.

Yeah - who is that Kim guy?

Mirabella V, the largest single-mast yacht ever built is my favorite super yacht by far. Available for charter for $275.000 per week.

Ah, the lives of the fabulously wealthy. Soon, through the powers of globalization and free trade we will all have one or more of these fuel guzzling bitches in our back yards, yay to progress!

Well, he never again managed to walk on water after they put those holes in his feet.

Besides - Noah's a dick and won't share. Oh and you really don't want to know what the shuffleboard pucks are made of....

Oh, no - not "KIMBLE", the "Kimvestor" magnate (Warning: Flash link) of Megacar fame! He can safely be considered one of the Peter Pans of the Dot-Bomb era.

Roman Abramovich's yacht Pelorus is apparently so big that when it was docked in Lisbon Harbour during the Euro Championships two years ago you couldnt see half of the harbour.

On the funny side someone put the 'wrong diesel' in it once. It cost a fortune to get it cleaned up apparently.

No matter how rich that Kimble might be, I am not in the least jealous. What an absolute arsehole.

Personally, I'd rather have a Phoenix 1000 than any of these wussy surface vessels.

Can we name that yacht?

My favorite yacht is the one built by the Donald. Best crew, too...

The media-shy Russian oil tycoon who owns Chelsea Football Club, Roman Abramovich, has a superyacht called Le Grand Bleu. Here's a writeup on the shenanigans that ensued when he decided to visit Auckland (NZ) in January, involving a verboten grey parrot, a hastily arranged Customs visit to Tonga, contraband ammunition, and a deckhand reported missing after a visit to the White House*. Postscript: Wayne Lee's body was found floating in the harbour several days after the 350-foot ship had weighed anchor.
*Auckland's premier strip joint.
