Zidane! In the wake of Sunday's World Cup, pranksters are hard at work transforming a man's name into a bold new verb. First link to a silly little flash game, all others, YouTube. 'metacafe?'
Man, they could at least mix up the pattern of Materazzis in that flash game. It's just the same three positions, over and over again....

Zilame or not, you can't deny that this has become a phenomenon, that this image is already iconic, somewhere between MJ dangling the baby and the twin towers collapsing.
People just kind of figure, Zidane is a heroic figure, so anything he does must therefore be heroic in some way. I like what Bernhard-Henri Levy - "the moisturizing man's philosopher"- had to say - ZZ had "deliberately pulverised the halo that France had put upon his head as if to declare to the world: 'I am a living being, not a fetish."
Probably it was more prosaic - some insult just too lame and banal in sober analysis (& why nobody wants to say exactly what it was), but we can hope I guess

PS Rereading it online, I gotta say that that is a good Guardian article and shouldn't be overlooked.

Yeah, cos It's not like realizing you've been bested and utterly shut down offensively for 3+ hours and you're not going to win your last game would make you want to kick anyone's ass or anything.

I was thinking more along the lines of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction.

That Flash game was somewhere else first. And yeah, 10-11 days ago, but I still love it.
I also love "the moisturising man's French philosopher." The rest of the article, nah.
